katniss

Beep Beep The sound of my alarm wakes me with a jolt. It takes me a second to remember where I am, but a second, I do. I must have slept all night, but it's not a surprise. I was exhausted from traveling. Today is our introduction day to Panem Highschool. We shouldn't get any homework or anything, but we will get a chance to learn our schedule and meet our new teachers.

"Morning, Madge," I say as we both get out of bed,

"Hello, Katniss," She says with a yawn. I walk over to my closet, where I hung up my outfit for today.

"Are you ready?" Madge asks, "Like are you?"

"Ready in a physical sense or a metal sense?" I question, "Because I'm not ready in both." We lightly laugh, but it's more of a nervous laugh.

"What's your schedule like?" She says as I pull on a tan cardigan over a green spaghetti strap top.

"Not too bad, actually," I say, pulling the thin piece of paper out of the pocket of my black leggings. "First period: Homeroom with Haymitch Abernathy, Second, English, Third, History, Fourth, Choir, and then..." I groan and say, "Math."

Math in general really isn't too bad, but having it last, you procrastinate until the end of the day, and while you do it, you are already tired and worn out from your other classes.

"I have homeroom with Abernathy, too, English Second, Choir Fourth, and Math Fith. Who's your math teacher?"

I check again, "Seneca Crane,"

"That's a shame," She says, while I pull on my backpack and we begin to walk out the door. "I've got math with Sejanus Plinth." We both sigh. I wish we had all our classes together. "Who's your English teacher?"

"Effie Trinket"

"Oh, me too," She says with a smile as I punch onto the first floor of the elevator.

As we ride down I ask, "Are you going to get breakfast?"

She shakes her head and replies, "Oh no. My sister told me that the lines are crazy and we won't make it to class on time."

"Yeah we don't want to be late on the first day," I say.

"This weekend I think we should go shopping for a mini-fridge so we can store breakfast there and heat it in the dorm."

I nod as the elevator pauses on the fourth floor. "We will just have to go a week without breakfast." The elevator door opens and in walks a shorter girl, with long red hair. She reminds me almost of some kind of mermaid.

"Good morning," The girl greets us, extending her hand towards Madge, "Annie Cresta," She introduces herself.

"I'm Madge Undersee, and this is Katniss Everdeen," Madge says, gesturing toward me and I wave.

"You two must be freshmen!" She exclaims,

"Is it that obvious?" I ask,

"Well, yes, a bit, but I believe that I'm leading your tour group"

"Which one of us?" Madge questions,

"Both of you, I think," Annie says pulling a yellow paper out of her pocket, she scans it with her finger, mothing the names, "Yes, I have 4 people from the 12th floor, 3 people from 2, 1 from 1 and 2 from 11, so both you are in my group, see?" She says showing us our names.

Madge and I glance at each other with a smile, knowing that we will get to be with each other majority of the day.

Annie waves goodbye and reminds us to meet her at table 13 at 8:20. I check my phone. The time reads 8:05. Madge and I decide to walk around the campus and wait for time to pass. Madge points out a few people. A girl with short brown hair who looks like she'd rather be anywhere else, Madge says her name is Johanna Mason.

We see a tall and skinny girl in a skin-tight black tube top and shorts way too small for her. Madge says that's Glimmer Bell, the one who she predicts to be the 'Queen Bee'

I point out Gale Hawthorn, telling her about our awkward bus ride. She points to the boy named Cato, talking to another very strong-looking boy.

"I can't remember his name," Madge explains to me, "I saw him at the gate that departed from Florida. It's like Trey? Maybe Thomas?" I nod.

"Doesn't it look like Cato is trying to persuade him into doing something?" I ask

"Yes, actually, I was thinking the same thing."

I check my phone again to see that it says 8:17. "We better go find Annie and the rest of our group," I say, and we both start walking in the direction of the tables. I recognize that unfortunately, Gale Hawthorn is leading this group along with Annie. Not everyone has arrived yet, but a few seconds later, Cato, Clove, and Glimmer arrive.

Madge and I give each other that 'Oh Shit' look. The boy Cato was talking to earlier is here, but the rest I don't recognize at all.

I see the redheaded girl I saw reading in the group next to ours.

"Alright, is this everyone?" Annie asks in a sweet voice.

"I think so," Gale replies,

"Why don't we all say our names, and our dorm floor?" We all nod. "You go first" She points to Clove.

Clove crosses her arms. "My name is Clove Kentwell, I'm on the second floor," She says with a smirk.

"You next," Annie points to the girl next to Clove.

"Coral Palée, Fourth floor"

They keep going, "Marvel Stanford, First floor."

"Thresh Kratz" So that's his name "Eleventh Floor"

"Glimmer Bell, First floor"

"Cato Hadley, Second floor."

"Madge Undersee, Twelfth Floor"

I'm about to say my name when someone runs up behind the group.

"Sorry, I'm late!" A boy exclaims behind me.

I turn to see him and my heart drops. oh no That's the boy who caught me staring at him in the parking lot yesterday.

I'm trapped.
