Nine. I had slept until nine in the morning. I never woke up that late, but after my night of crazy, I think I deserved it. Robin had left for work, he had to make up time for his paternity leave and his sick days. I walked into Emma's room, I knew she was awake because there was a rustling in the room. "Emma, how you holding up?" I cracked the door open and slowly walked in. She looked pale and tired. She was fixing the bed, she went to lift the corner of the mattress but gasped with the weight. "Just leave it Emma, it's fine, remember you need to start taking it easy, no heavy lifting for a while." I said while I sat her back down. "I know, I just hate feeling like this, I'm the same person I was four days ago! I just have a baby inside of me that's not even as big as that marble! I can make my bed!" She folded her arms and looked down. "I know, I did all of this, it seems ridiculous at first, but embrace it now, while you still have the waistline. I didn't and I was much more uncomfortable than I needed to be. Now, I can tell you are upset, what happened between you and your mom?" I nudged cautiously. "She asked why I went to you instead of them and how I should be able to trust them. Then she got mad and said I needed to rethink who my family was and where my loyalties were at. I think they're going to make me live somewhere else and I don't know what to do with Henry! I am at my breaking point Regina, what do I do?" She looked over at me with her big eyes. She looked like a teenager who had done the deed and was in trouble. "You relax, this is going to work out. If that does happen you and Henry have a home here, he is my son too and I have lots of room here, despite what he thinks. You have a family Emma, your parents, Henry, and me. I believe I am your step-grandmother, if I do our lineage correctly." I teased and nudged her. She gave a wary smile and looked at me. "Thanks Regina, I think the two of us make a great team, especially when it comes to our insane family." We both laughed, it felt good to lighten the heavy air with laughter. "Get dressed, I have to take Emmy for her check up, to make sure you and your family delivered my baby correctly, and I was thinking we'd go and check to see how you are doing." I stood up and grabbed her hands. She pulled herself up and walked over to the mirror, "I look horrible." she gasped when she saw her reflection in the mirror. I walked over to the mirror and gave a devious smile to her and replied. "I can help with that."
The four of us were driving in the car on the way to the hospital, I dropped Henry off at the Charming's house so he didn't have to witness his mother being thoroughly examined by the doctor. Roland was eating his crackers and Emilia was sleeping in the backseat. Emma pushed the mirror down and wiped her lipstick off with a tissue. "Wow, you're already ruining my look that I gave you." I scowled as I reached into my purse and handed her a lighter color lipstick. I let her borrow one of my shirts and pants, and she eerily looked like her mother with all of her makeup applied. I pulled into the hospital and parked in the reserved parking spot that I got as mayor. I grabbed the car seat and Emma got Roland. We were walking in when she let go of his hand and retched into a bush. "Gross." Roland replied and grabbed my free hand. I pulled my handkerchief out and handed it to her. When we got in I filled out Emmy's forms and handed Roland a coloring book for him to draw in. Emma scribbled down her information and handed it to a nurse who then took the four of us back. My body felt extra sore today, which was odd because it felt like I was getting worse every day.
I lifted the seat onto the examination bed and placed Emmy's toy into her seat. "Why hello there! Who is this?" Dr. Wale came walking in with stickers and pencils that he handed to Roland. "Emilia, Emilia Marie Mills." I said proudly. My voice shook, I was feeling tired and my body hurt, so I sat down closing my eyes and trying to relax. "She looks great, her lungs and heart sound fantastic. She's perfectly healthy! Do you have any concerns?" I went through my list in my head, then my question popped up. "Yes, when she was being born, her cord was wrapped around her neck, are there any permanent or long term affects of that?" I asked nervously. "Well, I'm examining her and she looks fine, don't worry Regina, she's looking good." I nodded and leaned back, trying to soothe my pain. "Now time for your check up. Hop on the table!" Dr. Wale instructed. "Excuse me?" I questioned. The last thing I wanted to do was lift myself onto this table and have this man that I knew too well examine me. "No I'm fine." I quickly added trying to avoid it. "Regina, you had your step daughter and step granddaughter deliver your baby under conditions that were not ideal! We need to make sure they didn't do anything wrong! Now I am asking nicely. Please sit on the table." Dr. Wale demanded. I reluctantly stood up and slowly sat down. While I laid there my lower half started to ache, I had been in pain all day and all I wanted to do was go home and take some painkillers. "Mrs. Mills some things aren't healing as nicely as I would like them to be, we are going to have to add some stitches, with what David did to get your daughter out-" "Son. It was Daniel, my son." I corrected him. "My apologies. Well he got him out, but he didn't finish taking care of you. So we are just going to fix that for you and we may keep you over night just to keep an eye on you." I did not want to make this a big deal, I was here for Emma, it should not be the other way around. "What. Can you please test Emma! I am here for her! That's why we we came!" I had quite a low pain tolerance and I wasn't going to leave her alone to have this check up. "Regina it's fine, I'm pretty sure I am indeed pregnant, I can get checked on tomorrow! Come on, let's get you fixed up." She grabbed my hand while they wheeled me down the hallway.
They made me change out of my clothes and into a horrid robe with no back. "Okay Mrs. Mills, so the anesthesiologist is in surgery, this procedure may sting a little bit, but it won't be too bad. I recommend the little boy leaves." Dr. Wale nodded to a nurse who grabbed Roland. "Hey. Excuse me, did I give you permission to grab him. No. I did not. Emma, can you wait with Roland outside?" She looked at me like I was crazy and stood there. "I will be fine. Call Robin and tell him what's going on." She reluctantly released my hand and grabbed Roland's. Then she grabbed the car seat and walked out. "Okay Regina, we are going to start now." Dr. Wale said as he put his gloves and mask on. My stomach was turning with fear. I nearly choked when I saw him pull out the needle. I nodded and grabbed the bed railings with all my might. Then my body started to burn, it felt like fire was shooting through my body burning everything in its track. I yelled out, nearly crushing the railings. It felt horrible, I needed Robin or Emma. Or anyone at this point. All of a sudden the door flung open and David ran inside. "Regina, Robin's boss won't let him leave work, they said he's missed too many days and he has to stay, so he sent me. Roland won't stay with me, so Emma sent me in here with you." He was out of breath from running. "Okay. Come here." I had tears running out of the sides of my eyes, it was hurting so bad. It felt like whatever David did to me was happening over and over to me. I let go of the railing with one hand and held it out. David grabbed it and stood next to me. I yelped, trying to avoid hysterically crying. "This is hurting her Wale! Numb her up!" David yelled. "I can't! The anesthesiologist is in surgery and I am not certified to do that! Now I'm one fourth of the way done! Just hang on!" Wale replied calmly. I was shaking and crushing David's hand. "Talk to me David, please. Try and distract me." I asked with my eyes closed. I felt him shift uncomfortably then sigh. "When you found out you were pregnant, who was the first person you told?" I rolled my eyes, I didn't ask him to interrogate me. "Robin, once I knew for sure I told Robin. Then I started telling others. I think I told Emma, Henry, then you two. I can't really remember." My voice shook as I answered him. "Oh, by the way, sorry about all this." David made a circular motion around my hips. "It's not your fault, you're not a doctor, plus you saved my son's life. If not for you, he'd probably still be stuck inside of me-" I started to burn, but it felt a thousand times worse. I screamed, and my eyes started to cry. "DAVID WHAT IS GOING ON!" I gripped his hand so hard that I think I burned it. "Wale! What are you doing!" David yelled at the doctor. "I'm sorry! I accidentally cut something I shouldn't have and it probably didn't feel great." He replied normally. "You have to be more careful! This is a patient!" David yelled back. He looked furious. "Well maybe her boyfriend shouldn't have mauled me! Maybe my hand would be more steady." I shot my head up furious. "That is NOT my fault! YOU brought him back! He was dead! You just had to bring him back and now I don't even have him in my mausoleum! This is not my fault! Now stitch me up correctly!" I screamed at him. He put his instruments down and stood up. "Well maybe your step daughter shouldn't have told your mommy a little secret." I wanted to rip him to shreds, Snow and I had made amends, and I was not going to let him talk about her like that. I formed a fire ball in my other hand and sat up. "Regina!" David held me down, his arm pinned me down on the hospital bed. "You don't want to do that. I am in total control of you right now Regina, I can determine if this hour is spent in screaming agony, or I can do my job correctly. Your choice." I was so angry but David gave me a warning look. I sighed and shot daggers with my eyes at Wale. "Good girl." He sat back down and picked up his tools again. "Wait, don't touch her." David walked over to Wale and pinned him to the wall. "David what is going on? It's starting to sting again." My eyes started watering and I cried out. I saw David rip a chain off of the doctor. All of a sudden Doctor Wale vanished and my jaw dropped. "Hello dear. I've missed you." My mother said with a poised manner.
