CHAPTER NINETEEN ( 🧺 )
narrative !

THE FIVE of them were finally hanging out together, all of them finally having clear schedules. Paisley and Vinnie were hanging out with a few of Paisley's friends, so they had the apartment to themselves for a bit.

Remington handed Stas a glass of water as she sat down. They'd ordered pizza. It was just a night to relax and chill out before more investigating came around.

"Here, if someone wants to play music," she said, placing a small speaker on the coffee table in front of her. Kat connected her phone, noticing she was playing one of Remi's playlists.

Despite there being enough room on the couch, Remington was sitting on the ground near Colby. He had leaned forward, playing with her hair as they talked over the music playing. Her phone went off and she glanced at it, seeing another message from Trevor. Remi didn't pay attention to what it said.

"Does anyone want another piece of pizza?" Kat asked as she got up. Sam raised his hand but everyone else shook their heads. She walked into the kitchen as someone knocked on the door.

Remi pushed herself up, "I got it." Whoever it was knocked again, four knocks in a row. They seemed impatient. "I'm coming, my goodness." She laughed, a smile on her face.

Fingers clasped over the metal doorknob, she pulled the door open. The smile fell from her face immediately when she laid her eyes on who was standing in her doorway. Trevor Cook.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" She whispered, trying not to drag any attention to them. Her eyes started to burn. She didn't see that Kat walked behind her, sneaking a glance at whoever was there.

Katrina stepped toward the couch, "There's a guy out there, he looks familiar." She said as she sat down, handing Sam a plate.

Colby furrowed his brows and got up from the couch.

"You weren't answering my texts, Remington." Trevor pressed his hand to the doorframe. Remi felt as if he was somehow getting closer to her without even entering the apartment.

She licked her lips, wrapping her arms around her body, "I ignored you for a reason. I need you to leave."

"No, please just talk to me." Trevor begged.

A hand meeting her waist made her flinch. The metal rings against her skin made her realize it was Colby and she leaned into his side.

"What's going on here?" He asked, clenching his jaw as he stared at Trevor. Colby noticed it was her ex.

Remi pressed her hand to Colby's, chewing on the inside of her lip, "Nothing. We were just gonna step outside and talk."

"No, you're not." Colby told him.

"Who the fuck are you, man?" Trevor spat, balling up his fists.

The Brock man licked his lips, "Her boyfriend. I think you should get the hell out of here."

"Whatever," Trevor's eyes moved to Remi and he shook his head, "you're such a bitch." He muttered, loud enough for them to hear it.

Colby shut the door before they could watch Trevor walk away. Remi just stood with her head down, unsure if she could look up as she moved away. Colby let his arm fall from her waist, slowly, almost like he didn't want to let go.

"I'm sorry, that like ruined everything," she chuckled as a tear rolled down her cheek. She felt stupid, embarrassed too. Trevor was never supposed to show up. He was supposed to stay gone.

Colby placed his hand on her neck, his thumb brushing her jaw. She met his eyes, "It didn't ruin anything, Rems. It's okay," she nodded, but didn't believe him, "Are you okay? Do you wanna take a second?"

"No, I'm okay." She took a deep breath, giving him an unconvincing smile, but the two made their way back to their friends.

Sam made eye contact with Colby, but he just shook his head as a way of saying, "Don't ask about it." He was sure the girls caught it too.

When everyone left, Colby stayed behind for a little bit. He had come here with Sam and Kat, but he would just get an Uber home if he needed to, "Rems, I know this is the last thing you want to talk about, but do you know why he showed up tonight?"

She shrugged, opening her phone to the messages he'd sent her, "He's been blowing my phone up all day. I had him blocked on his other number, just blocked the new one." She let Colby read the messages.

"Maybe if I had responded to him or just blocked him again sooner, this wouldn't have happened." She said, closing a pizza box.

"Remi, don't blame yourself for his actions. This isn't your fault." She didn't answer, but he knew there was something she wasn't saying, "What are you thinking?" He asked, standing in front of her, only a few feet away.

She ran her fingers through her hair, "What if tonight was different? What if you guys weren't here and it was just Paisley and I? We're both so fucking scared of him and I can't stop thinking about what might've happened if she was here."

Colby grabbed her hand, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles, "I understand, but it's better the way it happened. It's not good that he showed up, at all, but I'm glad the two of you weren't here alone."

Remi nodded, letting out a deep breath before hugging him. She just needed a hug and he never turned her down when she did. The girl looked up at him, debating on asking the question most prominent on her mind, but she didn't think too much on it.

"Can you stay here tonight?"
