Jane couldn't listen to anymore.

She felt sick.

Mentally cursing her mum and personally vowing never to attend another stupid event for her again. She turned the other side of the pillar and made her way to the bathrooms hoping not to be caught eavesdropping by the two guys.

When she was certain she was safe on the other side of the ball room she glanced back to see who was standing by the pillars.

A set of blue eyes locked with hers.

------------------------

She recognised the eyes before she took in the face that belonged to them.

It was the tall rude guy from the ice-cream palour she had seen earlier with his friend. His name was Oliver she recalled. They held each others gaze long enough to know that she had in fact overheard and now knew it was definitely him who had said it.

She tore her eyes away from his cornflower blue ones to see who he had been talking to. On his right stood Leo with his overly gelled hair. He was wearing a perfectly fitted suit and a dirty smirk in the direction of her sister Rose. Completely oblivious to the fact she had overheard their comments.

Jane felt the heat of tears prickle her eyes as her throat grew a huge lump. She ducked into the bathroom and stood in a cubicle attempting to make no noise while dabbing her eyes with toilet paper trying desperately not to let the mascara leak on her face.

Her whole chest felt heavy as her scratchy throat filled with a large lump.

She felt silly and pathetic.

She felt pathetic wearing the stupid dress that she had on.

She felt pathetic for listening into the conversation between the brat pack kids.

She felt even more pathetic for being caught and as ridiculous as it sounds she felt pathetic that the taller guy had dismissed her. Again.

For the third time in a week he had managed to make her feel non-existant which was oddly saddening. She allowed herself a few minutes to wallow silently in self pity and let the continual stream of tears soak the tissues instead of ruining her "face".

After what felt like ages she slowly felt an odd feeling of relief freeing her chest. She dabbed the last of her tears from her eyes in the cubicle and flushed the toilet.

She checked her face in the mirror and smiled wryly. With this ridiculous amount of make up on her face was perfectly creamy tone. No traces of red. The only mark left that she had been crying was that her eyes were a bit bloodshot and slightly glassy.

Satisfied she stood tall and left the bathroom.

A quick scan around the room let her know that bratpack (or half of them at least) were no longer there.

Or so she thought.

She smiled at her sister, Rose, who was making her way over. "Here she is. Jane, I was just talking about you, this is my sister Jane," she stepped aside to introduce her new friend.

Jane's jaw dropped, this time it was only for a second. She shut it immediately as she shook hands, politely smiling, "hey," the short guy said with a greasy smirk to match his greasy slicked back hair.

The second friend was standing behind Leo was none other than the petite brunette girl with those cornflower blue eyes from the ice cream shop. There is no way Jane could mistake her horrible little devil in disguise face. She looked completely different but the same. A smile could do wonders for any face. It was like she was her but also transformed into a different girl with a pleasant smile on her face, as she reached out to give Jane an air hug and kiss.

"Hi Jane, it's so nice to meet you! I am Adeline," She said with so much enthusiasm that Jane thought she had her confused. Maybe she wasn't the same girl after all?

Jane just smiled and nodded dumbfounded.

In no time Leo honed in on Rose absorbing all her attention, leaving Jane and Adeline to talk amongst them selves.

"So do you come to these events often?" Jane made polite small talk.

"Yes. I guess you could say it's kind of mandatory," Adeline looked at her nails in a bored fashion, then glancing around the room as if she was searching for someone more worthy to talk to.

She perked up and nodded across the room at someone.

Jane followed the direction of Adeline's eyes to see Oliver's dark messy hair and piercing blue eyes. He gave Adeline a nod and a smirk. He looked at Jane briefly before raising his eyebrow in question at Adeline. Adeline audibly huffed and shook her head slightly glaring at him in return from across the room. He smiled and exited the room.

Adeline turned and grabbed Leo's arm, "Leo!". The greased up buff guy smiled expectantly like he was almost waiting for her to butt in.

Leo turned back to Rose and grabbed her hand.

"We kind of all hang out at our own party after the first couple of hours. The adults never notice. Do you want to come?" He asked.

Rose's face lit with a wide smile at the same time Jane half grimaced. Rose's excitement could not be contained and Jane felt a bit guilty, the other kids at this party couldn't possibly all be as horrible as Adeline.

"I'm not sure how many seats are left," Adeline said in a sweet voice and looked pointedly at Jane. Jane might have been offended if it was not for the relief not hang out with her or any more most likely rude two faced friends.

Leo was too busy grinning at Rose and spoke up unaware of the obvious intentional 'un-invite' towards Jane.

"Yeah there is, I checked with Oliver just before and he said he had 4 seats excluding himself." He grinned at Rose and glanced for a second at Jane.

"Cool! Guess we are in... Anything would be better than here," Jane said as Rose's grin grew even wider.

Linking arms they followed each other out the same side door that Oliver left through.

I just edited the first 2 chapters - I had to read them and never going to try and type on my tablet again. It cut sentences up and pasted them everywhere.

Any way if you see typo's errors just let me know below so I can fix it.

Or if you are liking or hating on anything or anyone in the story I would love to know!
