Jane arrived at the party dressed in a simple black dress that her and Rose deemed cool enough but still comfortable enough for Jane to wear and not feel completely awkward. Alex led her out to the pool area where no more than 20 kids were lounging.
"Plain Jane," Adeline smirked at her in a drawling bored tone. She was eyeing her from head to toe, "how nice to see you again so soon," she finished with an eye roll.
"Adeline, such a charmer as always," Jane responded matching her bored drawl and eye roll.
"Now, now girls. Play nice," Alex said looking a touch excited considering the slightly turbulent take off for the evening.
Jane couldn't help but wonder if he enjoyed Adeline's foul mood or if he was completely socially impaired to the extent of not being able to read how angry she seemed.
To both Jane and Adeline's dismay Alex led her to the Bratpack's circle and sat down.
The conversation dribbled with unease and the occasional glare from Adeline at either Jane or Alex. A few comments were made at non drinkers as Jane sipped her water. This sparked an argument with Alex.
Jane excused herself to go to the bathroom to escape the argument and they building tension.
Jane opened the door to the pool house into what was clearly not the bathroom. It was far too large and furnished with couches and a glass coffee table in the centre.
"Jarrod!?! What the f*&%? How high are you not to lock the fucking door?" a young very unkempt guy in black who had facial piercings roared at someone else. There were 3 guys that looked so scruffy they were definitely not the kids from Bellevue. Even Alex looked like a perfectly pressed church boy next to any one of these guys. They were in the middle of the room huddled around a table with powder on it.
As soon as Jane noticed the powder one of the guys stood in front of the table and glared at her.
"Looking for something?" He virtually spat at her.
"Er never mind - I'll use the bathroom inside the house." She backed up as fast as she could.
The angry one stepped toward her sneering "and don't say anything or else,"
She quickly exited and slammed the door shut in her haste.
Relieved to just be outside she sighed and looked back over and noticed Alex and Adeline appeared to be in a heated argument a few steps away from the group next to the pool. No one seemed to be concerned though like this was common.
She walked back over and decided someone had to lighten the mood as queen of the Bratpack was so bent on ruining it or she could at least give Alex a rest from the spawn of satan. "Hey Alex and Adeline, maybe we should go for a swim or something?" Jane pitched the lame idea because the pool looked beautiful and a couple of guys were already in there.
"Do I look like I want to resemble a drowned rat to you?" Adeline lowered her voice menacingly at Jane. Jane shrugged and gave up. Turning to sit back on the large lounge area when she saw Alex grin wickedly.
"Actually, Adeline that's exactly the look you should be going for tonight. You're being so uptight. You need to cool down in the pool or get laid and unwind," he scooped up a fuming Adeline bridal style. He took 5 short quick steps towards the pool edge and tossed her in as if she weighed nothing.
Oliver groaned. "Really, Alex?"
A few people stared and started laughing and Alex sat down between Oliver and Jane.
"I don't think that is going to cool her down," she giggled at him. Fear of what Adeline may do next brought on Jane's giggles from fear not amusement.
"Well maybe she needs to find a victim for option two then," Alex wiggled his eyebrows at her causing to laugh.
Oliver stared at Jane for a moment causing her to quieten immediately. He looked down at his hands on his drink with a slight frown.
Adeline comes up from under the water to the edge of the pool looking like a drowned rat. A super hot drowned rat nonetheless.
"That was the final f*cking straw Alex!" She said heatedly before wading towards the guys in the pool down the other end.
Jane noticed Alex shifting uncomfortably and continuing to glance at Adeline hanging in the pool with the other guys laughing merrily. Woah. Mood swings to cause whiplash much?
Jane wondered what that threat meant. Last straw for what? Was she going to do something terrible to him? She hoped she wouldn't get included in whatever looming punishment was making Alex of all people so nervous.
