A/N: AU where Joyce, El, Will, Jonathan never moved, and Hawkins is normal after szn 3. El didn't lose her powers, so Billy didn't have to sacrifice himself, so he is alive too. The lore of Stranger Things isn't used much in this story, more so the characters, time frame, and settings. Also, aspects of Turkish culture and language will be used throughout the story for my OC, I translate sometimes :)
December 1985
I step off the bus and say thank you to the bus driver. He drives off and I grab my two bags, lug them down the street, and to my new house; your classic, suburban, American dream home with a wrap-around porch, white gray finish, and a "welcome home" mat in front of the door.
I unlock the door with my key and shout, "Anne? Baba? (Turkish for mom and dad) Are you guys here?" My mom's head pops out behind a wall, "I'm hanging a painting, come help me." I lay my bags on the floor, close the door, and walk to my mom to help her.
She says, "Vay allah, look at this beautiful painting I found." It's a painting of Istanbul, a city in Turkey that my parents are from, with a gold frame. I responded, "I love the colors. By the way, is there anything to eat? The multiple bus trips I took from home to here have me starving."
"Didn't you eat anything on the trip?" she asks. I shrug, "Just two sandwiches and some chips." She says, "There's mercemek (lentil dish) in the fridge, go heat it up, the stove should be working." I nod and do as she said.
After it's hot and ready, I pour a few scoops into a bowl and sit on the floor to eat. There is no furniture set up in our house right now. Makes sense since my parents flew in yesterday, but I have a fear of planes so I took multiple buses. The weather is cold outside in December, so this bowl of lentils is perfect.
My mom says, "Ilayda, your mattress is upstairs. There's also the bed frame and foundation, instructions are in the large box so you can build it." "Ok anne, thank you," I replied. I go upstairs and go to my room. The walls are a very light brown mixed with beige, and there is a darker brown accent wall.
I sigh as I see the mess of cardboard, paper, and packing peanuts on my bedroom floor. "Couldn't she have been gentle with it," I mumble. I clear the space where I want to put my bed so I can start building there. I make the foundation, the frame, then place the mattress on top.
I lay down on the bare bed and groan, "Finally I can take a nap." As I begin to close my eyes, my door swings open. My mom says, "Ilayda get up! We're moving and you think now is the time to sleep? Look at your messy room! And all the unpacked boxes! Get to work!" I nod, "Yes anne." I stand up and start cleaning, followed by opening all my boxes and setting up my room.
January 1986
A month later. It's January 6th, Monday, the first day of my new school, Hawkins High School. I wake up at 6:30am to get ready, starting off with a shower. Sadly, I'm starting a new school a semester before I graduate; horrible timing to move. I didn't have much of a choice though because my dad's job did force us to pack and move in a week.
After my shower, I brush my teeth, and dry my hair. I wear a pastel light brown colored dress that ends at my knees, sweetheart collar, and normal sleeves. Then I style my hair by straightening it, but then using the tool to curl my ends upwards.
I do natural makeup because my parents aren't a fan of me using makeup in the first place. But my mom says natural tones are ok. Once I'm finished it's about 7am. I go downstairs to have breakfast with my mom and dad.
I help my mom carry over the serving plates to the breakfast table. My dad sits there reading the newspaper. He says, "This town seems alright. Everyone I've spoken to so far has been kind." I ask, "How was work yesterday baba?" "Same old, same old, just with new faces sitting around me," he replied.
