The sun way low and the sky was faded orange, I lifted my two suit cases out of my car and into my new trailer. This was it! My new beginning that was very much needed. A British man in American, this was gonna be...odd. Although I was tired from the drive, I still had to unpack my bags so that's what I did and it immediately made the place feel more like a home. Exhausted, I sat down on the sofa and exhaled deeply. It was getting close to around ten O'clock and I remembered that I should probably check than the job I had gotten still wanted me to start the next day. Quickly, I walked over to the phone and dialled in the number for the movie rental store where I was going to work.
All my life, I've had to double or triple check things just to make sure that I know exactly what's happening. Honestly, I don't know what I'd be like here, in my own place. Knowing me, I would have to check that the house isn't on fire every five seconds and make sure the door was locked three or four times before leaving to go to work. Anyway, After I checked everything was okay with work, I went into my bedroom and flopped onto the bed and swiftly fell asleep.
____________________________The next morning, I woke up with a horrendous headache, most likely from not wearing my glasses. Stumbling to the kitchen, I took the med book out the cupboard and took some painkillers. Hopefully that would at least sooth the pain enough for me to get on with the day. It was half past seven and I had about and hour till my shift started but I though that I should go early to pick up my uniform. Before I left the house I: looked in the mirror, fixed my hair and said, "just be normal." I took a deep breath and left for work.
I pulled up to the place and walked in slightly nervous. The bell on the door rang and the man at the counter with tall brown hair asked, "what can I do for you?"
Tapping on the counter I said, "I'm the new employee and was wondering if I could get my uniform?"
"Yeah, sure man," he walked to the back and when he came back he was holding a uniform, "is that a British accent I heard?" He asked.
Oh god, this was the first time I heard that question and I knew I'd get bored of hearing it pretty quickly. "Yes it is, I just moved here." I was still tired so I didn't exactly sound inviting.
"Cool man. You can get changed in the bathroom, it's back there." He replied, pointing behind him.
I did the stereotypical 'British nod' and went to get changed. The uniform was not exactly flattering; made up off: a green waist coat with my name on it in a orange box and some black shoes. What was the point of going to the bathroom to change if I didn't actually have to take any of my clothes off? I thought but then remembered that the guy at the counter said to and the Britishness in me didn't want to disagree or make him look dumb. I walked out and said, "this isn't exactly attractive is it?" I said sarcastically, "I stood behind the counter and saw that the guy from before was called Steve, I couldn't previously see his name badge from the way he was leaning. "So, Steve what do you do around here when it's dead like this?" I asked him.
"What, you mean like always? It's never really busy here so I guess just do whatever till ur shift ends." He told me.
I exhaled, realising that this was going to be very boring unless I actually became friends with this guy. "So, how long you been working here?" I asked him awkwardly.
"Not long, about a month." Steve said walking around resorting some movies.
"How have you not died of boredom yet?"
"My friend Robin works with me, she'll be here soon. She's always late."
"Oh, so you just kinda chat all day?"
"Well, yeah but some of the customers are entertaining. There's this regular who I definitely think is into me." He smirked.
"What's she like?" I asked curious.
"He's a guy, plays dnd, an absolute weirdo but it's funny how he flirts with me." Steve laughed to himself.
I awkwardly laughed not knowing whether Steve was being homophobic or not. "Yh that's mad..."The day went on and I met Robin, she's great...definitely a lesbian. Me, Steve and Robin all got on well which was good, especially if I was gonna work here every Weekday. It got to around Twelve O'clock and a guy with long brown frizzy hair and a shirt that read 'Hellfire' walked in.
"Steve! How are you man?" The guy said quite excitedly.
"I'm good Eddie, what do you want today?" Steve asked kinda tiredly.
"Nothing, just wanted to see you guys... who is this?" Eddie asked turning to me and smirking as he looked me up and down.
"Y/n, I'm Y/n... nice to meet you..." I didn't hear his name before.
"Eddie Munson, Hawkins' resident freak." Eddie replied smirking.
"Oh yeah? What makes you a freak?" I didn't realise how flirty that sounded till it came out my mouth.
"Wouldn't you like to know, pretty boy?" Eddie winked at me and I swear I almost fainted.
"Hello! Earth to you two?!" Steve shouted.
I snapped out it and asked "hmm? What?"
"Are you guys done flirting? Y/n you actually have a job to do!" Steve said raising his eyebrows like I was in the wrong.
"Aw is Steve sad he's not got any attention." Eddie mocked. I tried to conceal a laugh and Steve rolled his eyes. "Here." Eddie said and gave me his number. I smiled at him and Eddie whispered in my ear, "you might not wanna blush so much if you don't want to be caught."
"I...I" No words formed and Eddie walked away saying, "bye, Robin! Bye Steve!" He then said the next part quite seductively, "bye Y/n!"
He walked out the door before I could say anything else. I just stood there with my mouth open until robin sarcastically said, "y/n are you trying to catch flies?" I quickly shut my mouth and tried to process what just happened. I looked over at Steve and he looked kinda jealous.
"You good there Steve?" I asked him.
"I'm great!" He said very sarcastically.
I just felt guilty now, "I didn't know you lik..." I was cut off.
"I don't! He's just making fun of you by the way! He does that!" Steve got very defensive so I thought I should just drop it.When my shift ended, I bought some food and went home. I couldn't stop thinking about that guy at work. He was kind off...attractive. For Fuck sake! I did not escape my previous life to just fall back into it. I'm not gay, no matter how pretty I find men or how I've never been attracted to girls or how badly I wanted to see Eddie without a shirt on...
I'm not gay!
