(Avengers' Pov)

How is it that everything can go to shit so fast?

First off, Y/N being late to her Avengers initiation. Which might not be uncommon for most people- but Y/N? She was never late.

Then, Loki lying on her bed, alone, lying about what really happened. When he showed up unannounced, only for Y/N to be missing as well, theories were ought to start growing on their own amongst them.

But when Y/N reappeared? Forcing them to stop interrogating a literal villain- just so she could put him to sleep?

The Avengers wanted answers. And despite her efforts, Y/N's vague truths weren't enough. But with all her power, no mortal would ever dare get on her bad side. Not even if they were supposedly on the same team.

Which left quite the simple decision, really.

Send in the super soldier.

"Absolutely not. This is a bad idea."

"I agree. I should be the one-"

"No, Thor." Natasha interrupted. "She'd end up stabbing you before you even got through the door." She whispered to the thunderer, as the team stood outside of Y/N's warded bedroom. Well, not warded- simply soundproof. She glared at Steve. "You are our safest bet if we want any more information."

"It's not right." Steve responded, before the team turned towards him with sarcastic expressions. Steve doing something wrong? Oh, how impossible.

"It's not right that she's trying to keep information from us." Tony crossed his arms, "Come on, Capsicle! Don't you want to know what's going on?"

Steve sighed, finding no wavering faces among the team. "Fine." With a sigh, the Captain headed towards the door, peeking his head in just enough to hear the end of a sentence.

"-even the smallest bits, you're going to get worse." Y/N's voice drew his attention, finding her sitting beside Loki on the bed. Holding his hand, fiddling lightly with something on his wrist. If he didn't know you better, he'd almost say you gave Loki a loving look.

But, none of that mattered.

The state which Loki was in- to say he just couldn't walk was an understatement. Steve doubted if he could move on his own. Overwhelming exhaustion stained his face, the only movement he could manage being caressing Y/N's free hand. So weak his limbs shaked from the mere effort.

Compared to the pompous, self-proclaimed god Steve knew from the invasion, Loki seemed like an entire other person. Even from not fifteen minutes ago- when the Avengers first found him in Y/N's room.

"This is temporary. I will remove it the moment I know you're doing better." Her voice shook Steve from his thoughts, just as the topic of his thoughts spotted the intruder. Leading to Y/N following his gaze, and-

"Out." She snapped, Steve stepping as far away from the door as he could before it slammed shut.

But questions ravaged his mind. What would she be removing? What caused Loki to be so injured? Was it Loki's enemy- or a greater threat to the world? Did Thor know? What would Y/N do, now that Steve knew?

The last question, however, he almost preferred to not have answered.

"So, what'd you see?" Clint asked the soldier, as the Avengers crowded around.

Steve glanced up, thinking better of telling the others. Not now. If Y/N had been so careful with sharing Loki's condition- when she was taking care of him, no less- then he'd have to too. "Nothing. I couldn't see them."

"That's it?" Stark scoffed, glaring at the door. "Didn't you hear anything? See shadows or something?"

"No." Steve sighed, brushing past the team. "And I think we should go, they obviously want privacy."

With more grumbles, the Avengers complied with their Captain, shuffling out of the room. Leading to the surprise of an empty room, when you finally exit.

So much for getting answers.
