Mira's POV
I was only nineteen when I had Alexander. It all happened fast. I was just the maid's daughter living in this very mansion. After years of existence in this palatial home, which I also called home, I never met Christos. I only saw him in photographs and I thought that he's the most handsome man alive. I especially fell in love with his playful gaze. Even from a painting, I couldn't help but fall in love with him. My mother often dissuaded me from going down that path. According to her, servants and those born into money shouldn't even breathe the same air. I tried to keep my emotions in check. I stopped thinking about him. I shunned him out of my dreams even. However, when we finally met, all those feelings came flooding back in. It's amazing that I fell for a man before I even met him and when I did, it was done. It was set in stone. I couldn't help but feel like a lovesick puppy. Whether we were a match made in heaven or not, he reciprocated my feelings. I became the young maid with the hope of a Cinderella story. In what was a span of a year, I was married and pregnant. It happened fast. After Alexander, he didn't want any more children. My craving to fill this palace with children was never entertained. I wish I had more because my only treasure is gone yet again and I have no idea what is happening. I'm losing my mind worrying about him being alone with that vile pretentious woman Rhea.
I got tired of waiting to speak to my husband. I pushed the doors to his office wide open. He was startled but he didn't ask me to leave. Like Alexander, he likes to be on his own. His library is his lifeline. Reading gives me migraines. I have never completed any book I have started. Even listening to someone reading for me sends me off to sleep quicker than a sleeping pill.
"Mira, what is it?" He asked without looking at me.
"Do you know where Alexander is?"
He closed his book. His expression became a little grave. He knows something I don't.
"In Santorini with his pregnant wife."
"Have you spoken to him? Did he himself tell you this?"
"Rhea called me. I also spoke to her father. You know Alexander and I aren't on speaking terms, right?"
I approached the silver fox. He let out a deep sigh patting his lap for me to sit on. I'm much younger than him. We have ten years between us. I suffer from a fetish for older men. My fingers mapped his aging face. He's a handsome mess just like his son but he doesn't have a backbone sorry to say. He tends to cave under pressure. At least Alexander didn't get this weakness. When my son decides on something, he does it with or without support. That's why I'm struggling to believe he willingly moved to Santorini with the conniving witch Rhea and he didn't even tell me. "If only you hadn't forced him to marry Rhea. You know he loves Helena Bale and yet you forced Rhea on him."
"Some things can't be helped."
"You are the man in this house and as such you should make decisions that protect your family! Not harm them! Alexander is our only child! Why not protect in him? You put us in the crossfire when you merged us with the Sarris family!"
He expressed displeasure from my words. "Don't disrespect me."
"Helens Bale would have been his happiness. It was a beautiful match. They are in love. They are..." I kept myself from mentioning she's pregnant. "Why didn't you approve and give him your blessing?"
"Because I had already promised Sarris that it would be Rhea and Alexander forever."
"And this so called pregnancy?"
"I'm happy that we will have not one grandchild but two!" He had the audacity to smile. I want to slap him so hard that his head will turn backwards. The things I have to restrain myself from in the name of being a good wife!
