Walking under the dim night light Todd and Imari made their way through the Forested area of the brakebills campus. Leaves crunching and twigs snapping under their feet as the trail they walked got more narrow the further their legs carried them.
At one point Todd zoned out, mindlessly following the man in front of him, his mind was some were else, wandering through his memories.
His memories played over and over in a sequence that Todd felt was out of sync to his other brainily functions. One memory in particular always felt out of place. That memory was of little importance as it was just about him swimming in a lake with his family when He was young.
Nothing special just him doing a normal and common thing and yet he still remembered it vividly, something that he can't do with other memories.
Todd was far to gone for him to notice Imari telling him to stop walking. unfortunately the only thing that he noticed outside of his thoughts was the throbbing pain of his face banging right into a tree. Todd winced in pain, rubbing his nose gently as it took most of the damage from the impact. He Heard a light chuckling coming from behind him. He turned around to see The sound coming from Imari.
"really, you could have warned me." Todd glowered.
No answer came from Imari as his chuckling turned into full on laughing which entertained the silent dark forest that surrounded them.
Todd switched to being visibly annoyed by this and just kept walking the trail that was leading to who knows where. Imari noticed Todd's absence in front of him and hurriedly caught up to him.
"you can't blame me for laughing, your the one who wasn't paying attention." Imari teased Todd which only annoyed him more. Imari noticed and decided to stop since they were arriving at their destination.
As they walked open space could be seen between the trees. Imari sped up to which Todd fallowed, both now speed walking to get out of the trees. Both soon exited the tree line showing a big clearing encircled by trees. The clearing was about two hundred meters in diameter which was covered by lavender.
"Wow." Todd was surprised such a beautiful place existed on campus. Todd's looked around only to notice that he never new about this place.
"Wait, why didn't I know about this place I know the entire campus by heart?" Todd asked Imari.
"That's because this isn't apart of brakbills." Imari answered Todd who was about to ask another question before getting interrupted by Imari. "I don't know how but this place appeared the day magic disappeared." Imari explained, Todd guessed that was the most he knew so he kept quiet.
both of them kept walking toward the center of the field. Todd who was admiring the flowers stoped and bent down and smelled the lavender. the strong smell filled the surrounding, mixing into the cold air to create a slightly stinging sensation to his noses.
As he kept staring at the lavender he noticed that they seemed weird. They looked like lavender but they felt odd. The color was the same, the smell was the same but they were different from real lavender. They seemed almost most fake but weren't, like a mimic of the actual thing. Looking at the lavender Todd had this nagging feeling that somehow they were walking into something irreversible but he quickly shoved it to the corner of his mind as he saw the lavender wilt right before him.
Todd immediately shot up from his position and looked around him, all the lavender was starting to wilt and disintegrate into the soil until the clearing was just grass. Todd freaked out and ran to Imari who was a twenty feet ahead of him.
"Did you just see that" Todd asked Imari as he came up to him. Imari looked at him questioningly as he asked what.
"There was lavender covering this field a minute ago." Todd said to Imari.
