The Magician King is the sequel to The Magicians and picks up the story two years later. Quentin and his friends are the kings and queens of Fillory, but their life of luxury isn’t the paradise it appears to be. The days and nights of royal leisure are starting to pall, and after a morning hunt takes a sinister turn, Quentin and his old friend Julia charter a magical sailing ship and set out on an errand to the wild outer reaches of their kingdom. The Magician King also tells the story of Julia's education, and how she fought and scrapped her way through the seedy underbelly of the magical world to get a sorcerous education outside the ivory tower of Brakebills.

Todd, the idolizing, partying, fun and hardly seen character wasn't supposed to be at brakebills. He wasn't supposed to interact with Julia, Quintin, Margo,Eliot, penny, kady, josh or Alice. So why did that change in timeline 40, Why is he here.

Everyone is quick to presume that they know the story of the Chatwins, but do they? Do they truly know? What's done in the dark often comes to light, so let the illumination process commence, via the eldest of the Chatwins. Challenge: create a 1,500 word short story telling us about one of the other times Quinton and his friends battled the Beast. I introduce Luna.

In their 38th battle against the beast, this battle took place in mutiple demensions in which Penny learned how to transport them all. But something about this battle was different if they could just remember it could possible change the outcome permanetly!

The Brakebills crew, led by Quentin, are making their way through Fillory to take on the Beast. As they are getting close to their destination they are stopped by children who look a little too familiar. Do the thoughts of a child hold the secrets to win? Can these kids help the others and finally take down the Beast?

(This is a short story for the writing contest #BattleTheBeast from my favorite syfy tv show, The Magicians.) With Quentin and Alice alone now, and their friends no where to be found, hiding from the Beast, they develop a plan with a help of a magical creature from Fillory. In Fillory, the air you breathe will either give you the power of gods, or choke the life out of you... An entry for the #BattleTheBeast contest promoting season two of THE MAGICIANS on the SyFy channel. This story's characters belong to the world of The Magicians. If you haven't read the books or watched the show, be aware that there are spoilers below. There have been 40 time loops created to destroy the Beast, a force of immense evil residing within Fillory. Season one of The Magicians deals with the 40th loop. This short piece was written with the following prompt in mind: create a story exploring one of the first 39 loops. Towards the end of season one, there is a scene taking place in Ember's abode in which Julia and Quentin are both present. Ember expresses surprise at seeing Julia. As it turns out, in most of the previous loops, Quentin had usually killed her by now. Our heroes shift uncomfortably at this revelation, which seems intended as a bit of dark humor. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this. I wrote another story for this contest working in an entirely different vein of thought, but still Ember's declaration stuck in my head. Why would Quentin, of all people, kill Julia? If you're a fan of the show, you know that when Dean Fogg tells Quentin and Julia they are reliving a timeline, it's also revealed that this 40th loop is the first in which Julia was not accepted to Brakebills. The hope was that the inner struggle resulting from her feelings of rejection would make her stronger. Stronger than what, I wondered. What occurred for Fogg to feel she needed greater strength? I took Dean Fogg's and Ember's words as hints of what may have happened in one of the other loops and ran with it. I hope you enjoy the resulting story!

A ragtag group of misfits in hostile territory are fighting the clock to free a goddess from her temple. But nothing is as it seems with the Goddess of Trickery on their tail. Excerpt: "Have you ever felt lost? Adrift in the sea of death and emptiness with no motivation." He took her by the chin and gently forced her to look into his red eyes. "With no purpose." "When there are a thousand versions of you all around, that seem to be stars of their own play, what makes you special? When someone tells you that you are unique do you respond with 'just like everybody else?' " Hot tears escaped from Cathy's watery eyes as she squeezed them shut. "Please, just stop." E'dyn shook his head and cupped his hands around her face. "Do you ever feel like you are just a supporting character or some lowly stage hand in someone else's story? Just some passing extra character without a single line. No matter how you fight it, how you struggle with blood, sweat and tears, you will never become a shining star." E'dyn took a shuddering breath as he wiped her tears away. "The cycle will never end. Not until you draw your last breath. Because destiny did not choose you." He pulled her into a protective embrace burying his face in her hair, breathing her scent deeply. "But I did."

Once in Fillory Quentin and his friends are told of an ancient blade able to channel a magician's power. They should have read the fine print first.
