Fillory Stories

(Not an entry into the #BattletheBeast contest). Penny, in his trips to other worlds, stumbles upon one that houses an opportunity to summon a god. One that is trapped and yearning to break free. One that is, perhaps, willing to lend a helping hand to their cause of killing the Beast. All they have to do is navigate deceptive forests, avoid psychopathic pixies, religious fanatics and maybe do a little dance number, of a sort.

All time loops start somewhere, from an idea and a motivation to change the course of events. Fighting the Beast was inevitable, but winning didn't come naturally.

One of Quentin Coldwater's thirty-nine failed encounters with the mad magician known as The Beast. This one's particularly disastrous! For the #battlethebeast contest.

Real world dragons live in rivers, and Quentin decides to ask one for help defeating the Beast.

Time is a curse within itself. A Magician's curse.

For the Battle The Beast fanfic contest. Quentin's sure they're going to defeat The Beast this time. They're going in prepared with battle magic, joint spells, and even a failsafe in case the original plan goes wrong. But why would it? Strike fast and hard. Don't give The Beast any time to cast. Should work, right?

The Brakebills crew, led by Quentin, are making their way through Fillory to take on the Beast. As they are getting close to their destination they are stopped by children who look a little too familiar. Do the thoughts of a child hold the secrets to win? Can these kids help the others and finally take down the Beast?

The found manuscript of the Beast is quite enlightening, some would say. It's even more enlightening that he's writing the thing while he walks down the halls of Brakebills on the 39th loop through time... #BattleTheBeast

(This is a short story for the writing contest #BattleTheBeast from my favorite syfy tv show, The Magicians.) With Quentin and Alice alone now, and their friends no where to be found, hiding from the Beast, they develop a plan with a help of a magical creature from Fillory. Will this plan work, or will it fall through like the last one with Julia eloped with the Beast at the last minute. Read this short and find out.

For the #BattleTheBeast contest, I decided to write this short story based around Quentin and his fourth try out of forty. He is unaware of the time loop during this attempt and manages to make it to Fillory with all of his friends.

Another go of it on the horizon. Loss is definite and fear is necessary. Quentin and his friends need nothing short of a miracle.

"When there are a thousand versions of you all around, that seem to be stars of their own play, what makes you special? When someone tells you that you are unique do you respond with 'just like everybody else?' " Hot tears escaped from Cathy's watery eyes as she squeezed them shut. "Please, just stop." E'dyn shook his head and cupped his hands around her face. "Do you ever feel like you are just a supporting character or some lowly stage hand in someone else's story? Just some passing extra character without a single line. No matter how you fight it, how you struggle with blood, sweat and tears, you will never become a shining star." E'dyn took a shuddering breath as he wiped her tears away. "The cycle will never end. Not until you draw your last breath. Because destiny did not choose you." He pulled her into a protective embrace burying his face in her hair, breathing her scent deeply. "But I did."

In their 38th battle against the beast, this battle took place in mutiple demensions in which Penny learned how to transport them all. But something about this battle was different if they could just remember it could possible change the outcome permanetly!

What are six inexperienced magicians to do after losing to a master practitioner, known as the Beast, thirty-eight times? Fight him again, of course! But in the world of magic, things aren't always black and white. And when a member of their group falls along the way, the lines between duty and friendship are blurred. Will grief rip the would be hero's apart, or can they pull together to battle the Beast again? #battlethebeast

Eliza hoped giving Quentin the final Fillory novel early would give him an advantage. Unfortunately, knowledge untempered by wisdom proves to be a very dangerous thing. Word Count: 1480
