A ~1,500 word short story for the #BattleTheBeast contest from The Magicians, on SyFy. It recounts one of the 39 unfortunate times Quentin Coldwater and his friends from Brakebills University battle The Beast, a monstrous master magician from the fantastical land of Fillory. Pretty much everyone dies horrible deaths. Enjoy!

In this #BattleTheBeast story, Quentin enters the magical land of Fillory through a rainbow in one of his earliest battles against The Beast. He is joined by his friends Alice and Elliot on a quest to rescue the Keeper of Rainbows, who's been kidnapped by The Beast. They are called through the rainbow by the Keeper's daughter, Marigold. If they don't succeed, the magical rainbows of Fillory could be lost forever.

They fail consistently. Sometimes it's from lack of preparation... Sometimes it's due to less power or not being quick enough by just a hair....But this time... It's because winning would mean losing it all. #BattleTheBeast

It seems nowadays everyone is interested in their heritage. People go crazy just to have the bragging rights of being related to royalty, but is it all it's cranked up to be, or is it merely all a joke; a story meant to provide its readers with tear-jerking laughter? The beast uses magic that is extremely powerful and unique, so Coldwater and his friends have decided to find someone with their own unique magic.

(This is a short story for the writing contest #BattleTheBeast from my favorite syfy tv show, The Magicians.) With Quentin and Alice alone now, and their friends no where to be found, hiding from the Beast, they develop a plan with a help of a magical creature from Fillory. Will this plan work, or will it fall through like the last one with Julia eloped with the Beast at the last minute. Read this short and find out.

All time loops start somewhere, from an idea and a motivation to change the course of events. Fighting the Beast was inevitable, but winning didn't come naturally.

So Eliot kills him...and tries to save Penny. But what happens when he ends up facing the Beast? This is attempt Fifteen. Word count: 1,495

(Not an entry into the #BattletheBeast contest). Penny, in his trips to other worlds, stumbles upon one that houses an opportunity to summon a god. One that is trapped and yearning to break free. One that is, perhaps, willing to lend a helping hand to their cause of killing the Beast. All they have to do is navigate deceptive forests, avoid psychopathic pixies, religious fanatics and maybe do a little dance number, of a sort.

Its the final battle and everything is on the line. Its all or nothin Bitches!!!!! This is an Entry for the #BattleTheBeast competition sponsored by SyFy's "The Magicians." Trying to kill The Beast... the 27th time.

so i figure out that should make a story about the magicians because i can Amanda Mathews live in a family of magic, but sadly her family died when she was 16 then she went off years later at 25 she could do magic and found Brakebills?

In Fillory, the air you breathe will either give you the power of gods, or choke the life out of you... An entry for the #BattleTheBeast contest promoting season two of THE MAGICIANS on the SyFy channel. This story's characters belong to the world of The Magicians. If you haven't read the books or watched the show, be aware that there are spoilers below. There have been 40 time loops created to destroy the Beast, a force of immense evil residing within Fillory. Season one of The Magicians deals with the 40th loop. This short piece was written with the following prompt in mind: create a story exploring one of the first 39 loops. Towards the end of season one, there is a scene taking place in Ember's abode in which Julia and Quentin are both present. Ember expresses surprise at seeing Julia. As it turns out, in most of the previous loops, Quentin had usually killed her by now. Our heroes shift uncomfortably at this revelation, which seems intended as a bit of dark humor. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this. I wrote another story for this contest working in an entirely different vein of thought, but still Ember's declaration stuck in my head. Why would Quentin, of all people, kill Julia? If you're a fan of the show, you know that when Dean Fogg tells Quentin and Julia they are reliving a timeline, it's also revealed that this 40th loop is the first in which Julia was not accepted to Brakebills. The hope was that the inner struggle resulting from her feelings of rejection would make her stronger. Stronger than what, I wondered. What occurred for Fogg to feel she needed greater strength? I took Dean Fogg's and Ember's words as hints of what may have happened in one of the other loops and ran with it. I hope you enjoy the resulting story!

Quentin and his friends, in a desperate attempt to learn a new type of magic, travel to New Orleans, to meet with an old friend of Dean Fogg's.
