When John got home to the large condo he owned, his neighbors let him have it.
"How could you not even call us?" Darla demanded.
"We were worried sick!" Penny crossed her arms and tapped her foot, a sure sign of irritation.
"I'm just so glad you're alright!" Jade hugged him and he hugged her back.
"It was a wild night," John said tiredly. "I'll tell you about it, if you want."
The girls sat eagerly on the big c-shaped couch they had picked out for the living room. He hadn't known a thing about what he wanted for furniture when he'd bought the house, so he'd been more than happy to let them decide everything. He sat down beside them and started at the beginning.
They listened raptly and gasped at all the appropriate moments. They were his best friends, so they knew everything, even his secret. It was the least he could do. They found him sleeping in the club's back alley one night and the rest was history.
Seven years ago John had been a homeless nineteen-year-old nobody. Then he found some work that didn't care about his lack of schooling and his lack of housing. Anyone could be an 'exotic dancer' if they were good enough. John looked the part and he picked up the skill pretty fast. He danced for three years and started slowly taking on the role of bouncer more than dancer.
When he used his skill, he could Look ahead and stop drunks from causing trouble. He could keep the girl dancers safe before they were even in danger. It was pure luck that the establishment was considered classy enough that the girls got the occasional high-profile client to dance for. And it was their recommendations of his ability to stop trouble that got him into freelance security. With no schooling and no job experience, he went from a stripper to a bodyguard getting paid six figures per gig. He bought a set of four condos that were all connected and shared a backyard, and he gave his three best friends their own house. He enjoyed having his found family close by.
He didn't really care about keeping the money he made. It all went to them. Penny was going back to college. Jade was starting her own business. Darla was still dancing, but she could take care of her six-year-old daughter in style, with money to spare, because John shared what he had.
"So what did Ambrose do then?" Penny looked so enraptured that John felt like giving her popcorn.
"He didn't do anything, I left."
"Why are you blushing?" Jade asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Well..." John hesitated. "I may have Looked to see if he was going to cause any trouble for me before I got out of there."
"And?" Darla pressed.
"I saw us..." John bit his lip.
"Oh just out with it already!" Penny demanded.
"I saw him kissing me against the table. Like really going for it, too. It was fucking hot."
The three women gasped.
"No!" Jade exclaimed at the same time Darla cried, "You didn't!"
"I didn't," John told them. "I booked it out of there so fast I left skid marks on the floor."
Penny rolled her eyes at John. "You should have stayed. Had a little fun. Lord knows you haven't had action in long enough."
"First of all, fuck you." John flipped her off and she grinned unrepentantly. "Second of all, Ambrose Hyland is a crook. A cutthroat business shark at the very least and a murderous mobster at the very worst. Either way, he isn't a bit of rough that I could have a little sexy fun with. He's dangerous."
