TIME JUMP TO MONDAY:
I woke up, tossing and turning.
1AM
I fell back asleep, until I woke up again.
2:45AM
I groaned, rolling over and seeing Robin on the edge of my bed, almost falling off. I rolled over again, trying to go back to sleep. She had been sleeping in my bed every night since the party.
I stared at the wall for a little while, maybe an hour, before I realized that no matter how hard I tried I would not be able to fall asleep.
I craved to be laying next to Eddie.
I slowly got up, trying not to wake Robin, then walked over to the bathroom. I turned on the water, waiting for it to heat up. I stood in front of the mirror, I could barely even recognize myself. I ran the moment through my head continuously. I felt like such a bitch.
Why would I do that to someone I love. How could I do that to someone that loves me.
I got into the shower, immediately sitting on the floor. I hunched over my knees and let the warm water hit my back. I picked up a bottle of shampoo and began to lather it into my hair.
I felt myself beginning to cry again, this reminded me of Eddie. Everything I did reminded me of Eddie.
I quickly stood up, rinsing the shampoo out of my hair and getting out of the shower. I dried off before putting my clothes back on and walking downstairs.
I picked up the phone in the kitchen, beginning to dial Eddie's number. I quickly stopped, then dialed Steve's. I wasn't sure if he'd be awake but it was worth trying.
The phone rang a couple of times before he picked up, "Hello," he asked in a tired voice. "Hey Steve, um it's Skye." I paused for a second. "I'm sorry, did I wake you?" I felt bad, but I needed someone. "Maybe, but it's fine. Are you okay," he asked, making me cry. The words are you okay were like a punch to the stomach.
"No, um. Could you come pick me up. Go for a drive, clear my mind," I said quoting him from the other day. "Yeah of course. I'll be there in 15," he said. "Okay, bye," I hung up.
I walked back upstairs, putting my shoes on. I walked back downstairs, opening the front door quietly then sitting on the door step. I waited a little bit before Steve pulled up, he got out of his car and I ran over to him, instantly hugging him. He held on to me tightly and I cried into his chest. He rubbed my back until I pulled back and walked over to the front seat of his car.
I put my feet up on the chair, burying my head into my knees. "Steve," I said, my head not leaving my knees. "Yeah?" he replied. "Did you see what happened," I asked. He waited a second before responding, "No, uh, I didn't know anything was happening until Robin came to find me," I sighed, looking up at the road.
"I don't know exactly what happened. All I know is that someone told Eddie that I kissed Jason. I'm sure it was Jason. Oh and I'm fairly positive that Eddie punched him," Steve looked over at me, a little shocked but he tried hiding it as best as he could. "Skye, my god. I'm so sorry," he said. "No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have kissed him, I should've at least told Eddie," he nodded, "I should've given you better advice," I nodded.
"Would you mind driving over to the trailer park?" I asked, he nodded and took a u-turn. Once we got to the trailer park he parked his car in front of Eddie's trailer. A tear fell from my eyes as I looked over at the yard.
"Come on, run faster you old man," I yelled out to him, "Alright, alright," he screamed back. I stopped in the middle of the road and stood in front of him, he grabbed my hand and spun me around then pulled me close into his chest. He leaned down to kiss me. I escaped his grasp and ran, "You gotta catch me first," I laughed. He chased after me when he slipped in a puddle. I heard the impact and turned around, we both immediately started laughing.
I looked over at the steps.
When we got to Eddie's trailer he could not walk away from me. The whole walk to the door he was behind me with his arms wrapped around my waist. He unlocked the door and we went inside. I walked to his room, his arms still around my waist.
I looked over to his window, it was open. I saw him sitting on the edge of his bed, playing guitar. He looked upset, it made me feel terrible. Worse than I already felt.
He looked up, walking towards the window. He immediately noticed me. He stood there for a second, looking at me, he looked at the ground before he closed his blinds.
My eyes were glued to the window, Steve put his hand on my knee. "Do you wanna go knock," he asked looking over at me. I shook my head no, "Can we just drive around some more," my eyes met his. "Yeah, yeah," he said before pulling out of the trailer park.
"My bed still smells like him," I said after a little bit of silence. He glanced over at me, "That's why I couldn't sleep. Robin was next to me and my bed smelt like him, but when I turned around it was never him," I wiped a tear off of my face. "Skye, I'm sure he'll come around. He just needs time," he said. "And if he doesn't," I asked. "He will," he looked over to me, nodding.
"Would you mind if I slept on your couch tonight?" he looked over at me. "You don't have to sleep on the couch," he said. "Steve," I replied, a bit annoyed. "Right, sorry. Yeah, I'll give you the bed," I stared at the floor, his words reminding me of Eddie.
When I walked out I saw Eddie holding a pillow and a blanket walking towards the couch. He must have heard the door open because he turned around to look at me, "The bed is all yours, I'm just gunna sleep on the couch," he said. "Eddie, no you don't have to do that," I told him. "No, no, I don't want to make you uncomfortable or-" I cut him off, "Eddie I want you to come in here with me," I said in a serious tone so he knew I meant it. "Okay," he said walking back towards me.
"No," I blurted out, pretty much yelling at him. I covered my mouth out of shock, I didn't mean to yell at him. "I- I'm so sorry Steve, I didn't mean to yell," I said looking at him. "No, it's okay," he smiled at me. "It's just, Eddie said that to me the first time I slept over. It reminded me of him too much," Steve nodded.
We drove back to Steve's house and I sat on the couch. He ran out to grab a pillow and a blanket. "Thank you," I said quietly. "Mhm, no problem. Do you need anything else," he asked. "No I'm okay.." we paused for a second. "Okay then, goodnight Skye," he said. "Goodnight, Steve," he nodded before walking out.
A couple minutes later he walked back in, "You know where my room is, come get me if you need anything," he said. "Okay, thanks," he nodded and walked out.
I tried my best to fall asleep.
Eventually I fell asleep for about two hours. I woke up at 6:23. I sat up, I needed to talk to Jason. I need to know what he told Eddie.
I ran up to Steve's room, shaking him awake. His body jolted up, "Skye, fuck. Are you okay," he asked. "Yes. I need you to drive me to Jason's house. Now. Like before he leaves for school," he looked at me confused. "What- why do you want to talk to Jason," he asked. "I need to know what happened and Eddie isn't talking to me so this is my only way of finding out," he sighed before getting out of bed. "Okay, let's go," he said putting his shoes on.
