"so are you just gonna sit there and keep playing with your milkshake or tell me what's bothering you?"
nick sits across from slader at the table they sit in at monty's. nick had remember slader mentioning the restaurant being one of his favorites once or twice so he suggested that they'd go there to cheer slade up.
slade hasn't been saying much since he picked up nick. nick didn't know what to do besides talk about something else to get things off of slader's mind.
it worked for the most part but nick could tell whatever was bothering slader was getting to him again.
he would zone out and stare into space when nick talked to him sometimes. he hadn't touched his food and only took a few sips of his strawberry-chocolate milkshake.
nick thought it was a weird combo but slader said it was the best thing ever. nick stuck to a basic oreo shake with his meal.
slader sighed with his gaze towards the table. when he looked up, he made immediate contact with nick who had nothing but an expression of concern.
"i don't wanna sound like such a spoiled nepo baby—"
"slader, i don't care. just tell me what the fuck is going on."
"geez, fine. damn okay." slader was taken aback by how quick nick switched up his demeanor. he couldn't help but laugh at it.
"my parents told me and my siblings that we were getting a reality show. i know it might sound great but i personally don't want that. as it is, i grew up in the public eye. i've seen how reality shows are portrayed and how they turn people against each other and basically ruin everything for someone. i didn't get much privacy as a kid. it can fuck someone up. i like being private and i like my own little world the way it is. that's why i wanted to play pro too because my siblings were out in the music or acting industry meanwhile i chose a route that wasn't as hostile."
nick's eyes widen as slader kept talking.
"holy shit." nick couldn't help but say.
"that's so... fucked? i'm so sorry, slade. you shouldn't have to go through something like that. have you told your parents about how you feel about it?" nick continued on.
"no. but i'm pretty sure my dad knows i'm not happy about it. when my siblings were celebrating i just sat there and did nothing. he tried talking to me but i wasn't in the mood to talk to him about it yet." slader answered.
"you should at least try telling both of your parents how you feel, slade. they seem like the type not to force you into anything considering the fact how different you are from your siblings. the least they could do is be considerate of how you feel and your thoughts on the whole thing." nick advised slade.
slader's lips slowly turned into a smile when nick kept talking. he just stared at him with a shy smile and a blush forming in his cheeks.
nick caught on and stopped talking about what he was speaking about.
