Severus's Perspective
After a long day of having meetings with the dark lord, Severus Snape entered the Three Broomsticks, with red bags under his eyes, and sickly pale skin.
Everyone had stared at him as he walked in. Probably because he was wearing all black, and he looked quite mischievous. Or perhaps it's because they knew who he was, the daunting Professor at Hogwarts, the Professor who never dares to leave his dungeons. The Dungeon Bat.
Severus ignored their stares and sat at the bar. The back doors then opened revealing his old childhood best friend (Y/N) (Y/L/N) with multiple drinks in her hand, carrying them over to a bunch of guys playing pool.
He hadn't seen (Y/N) in ages. And he had no idea that she worked here. But he should have known. When they were younger she always talked about living in Hogsmmeade full time and being a waitress.
Severus debated on leaving before she could see him because if she did see him, then that would mean conversation, and conversation would mean getting attacked with questions about how he was doing, and why he hadn't spoken to her since the Potter's passed away. And that would mean her finding out that he was a death eater. Or assuming he was really a death eater (not knowing he was undercover) and hating him for the rest of her life. He didn't want that.
But he also missed (Y/N). (Y/N) was his only other friend besides Lily Evans and Lucius Malfoy that actually gave a damn about him. He missed hanging out with (Y/N) and listening to her stories about different things that she would just make up. He missed (Y/N)'s laugh, and her smile. He missed the days when they were kids and they didn't have to worry about anything. But those times were gone.
Severus felt guilty that he hadn't been in contact with (Y/N) for the past few years. He felt guilty that he probably kept her wondering why he stopped speaking to her. He felt guilty that he couldn't be (Y/N)'s best friend. And it was all because he had a job. A job that was meant to protect Lily Potter's son from the dark lord. A job that was meant to save the wizarding world.
You see, in the eyes of Headmaster Dumbledore, Severus was a hero. But Severus didn't want to be a hero. He wanted to have a normal life. He wanted to have his best friend back. He wanted Lily Evans alive, hell even James Potter too so he could get back at him for all the times he hurt him.
But it couldn't be that way. He had to risk his life for others. He had to risk his life for her.
Severus agreed to take this task originally to protect Lily's son, but over time, he did it to protect (Y/N). His only motivation was (Y/N).
(Y/N) (Y/L/N), like Lily Evans and Hermione Granger was a muggle born witch. And if something happened to her because of this war with the Dark Lord, he wouldn't know what to do with himself.
Severus's stomach felt queasy as (Y/N) made her way over to the bar once she saw him. "All be damned," (Y/N) smiled, sitting down next to him at the bar. "It's my best friend."
Severus turned to face her and weakly smiled. "Hello, (Y/N), we meet again."
(Y/N) smiled even wider. God, how he loved that smile.
"Severus it's been so long since we've spoken. You have no idea how much I've missed you."
Severus looked around the tavern to make sure there were no death eaters around. Severus then smiled at her. "I've missed you too. I had no idea that you worked here, (Y/N)."
"Ah yes," she said. "I've been working here since I graduated from Hogwarts. But I won't have this job for much longer."
"Oh really? Why is that?" Severus asked.
"You don't know?" she asked. Severus shook his head. "I got a job at Hogwarts." Severus's eyes widened.
"But don't worry Severus. I'm not stealing your job. Dumbledore wanted me to be an English Professor.""English? But isn't that a Muggle Subject?" Severus asked.
"Yes," said (Y/N). "But Dumbledore thought it would be wise to add it to the curriculum. He said some of the other professor's were complaining about the students abilities to read and write. They can do it, but they're not the best at it."
"I guess that makes sense," he said, shrugging. "So where will you be teaching? I know there are a few rooms open."
"I don't know," she said. "Dumbledore has as not given me that information yet."
Severus gave her a firm nod. "So Severus, may I ask you one thing?"
Oh no, he thought. She's going to ask me about why I haven't spoken to her.
"Why haven't you ever contacted me since Lily and James died? I mean, I know I didn't initiate anything either... but... we're best friends..."
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)," he said. "I can't answer to that. I-I'm sorry this was a mistake coming here."
Severus then got up and started to turn around. As he started to walk way, she said, "Severus wait!"
Severus sighed as she stepped in front of him, not letting him go. "(Y/N)," he sighed. "Not now."
Severus then noticed the tears starting to form in her eyes. "Why?" she asked. "Why are you avoiding me?"
"I-I'm not avoiding you. Okay... I am. But I have a good reason. I'm involved in something that I don't want you anywhere near. I'm sorry (Y/N)."Severus noticed (Y/N)'s eyes widen in shock. Informing her beautiful face, Severus walked passed her and out the door. As soon as he went through the door, she could hear her yell, "You didn't even order anything!"
Walking down the streets of Hogsmmeade back to the castle of Hogwarts, Severus sighed. He hated what he had just done. He hated how he had to avoid her. But he had to if he wanted to protect her, his only friend, and his only family. She wouldn't understand it now, but she will later, and she'll be grateful for it, he'll be grateful for it.
Severus finally got inside the castle, and back into his personal quarters. He sat on his bed, and took the picture frame that was on his nightstand to look at it. It was a picture of him, Lily, and (Y/N) when they were in school together. They were outside in the courtyard. Lily was placing a Daisy in (Y/N)'s hair, and and Severus was smiling at them. It was one of the most precious items he had.
A tear ran down his cheek as he caressed (Y/N)'s face. He missed her so much. But he was willing to avoid her and to keep his distance if it meant saving (Y/N) and Harry Potter's life.
For the rest of the night, Severus looked at the moving picture, until he gently closed his eyes and fell fast asleep.
A/N:
The writing is not the best in this chapter so I apologize!
Just like it's hard to write Dumbledore, it's also so hard to write Severus! But I feel that keeping his distance in order to protect the ones he loves is something that he would do.
Also I apologize, I speak American English, so some of the words might be spelled differently! But I will try my hardest to spell it the British English way to make it more realistic!
I hope you all enjoyed and please let me know what you think in the comments! I'd love to hear from you!
