you sat on the bed with your best friend since 2nd grade isabel conklin staring off into space looking at an old picture from the beach house and your other friend taylor jewel lying down with her feet on your lap. in the pic it was steven, conrad, belly, you, and jeremiah. all wrapping your arms over each others shoulders. belly's and your hair was in braids. "now we're twins!" she had said. she had baby pink glasses and she was smiling profoundly, shining her braces. you had braces too, no glasses. you and bels were wearing some embarrassing outfit.
"earth to bels?" you cooed.
"drew's bummed that you're both missing the beach matchup with the boys team next weekend." taylor stretched out on belly's bed like a cat lying in the sun.
"um, make sure you tell sophie to square up for the block." belly said.
"drew martinez is texting me about you, and you're talking about volleyball? like are you serious right now?" taylor's laugh sounded like bells clanging, not in a bad way.
"drew doesn't care if we're there or not." you stated promptly.
"he just wants an excuse to text you." belly held up a green shirt and folded it. "you gotta take the game against the boys seriously, I mean, team pride is on the line, taylor." she clenched her fists pridefully.
"you're such a nerd, bels." you giggled and stood up to help her pack her bags, and upgrade yours. you looked in her closet and picked up a pink cropped boob tank top and held it up to your chest.
"that goes perfect with your skin tone." taylor said and pointed at you. it did, it matched perfectly with your tan skin.
"you skank belly, I can't believe you actually have something stylish in this closet of yours." you smiled at her to show you were kidding. "let me borrow it?" you pleaded.
"fine." belly messed with her perfect black ponytail.
"plus, belly you know me better than that. I would never let a boy beat me at anything." taylor finally brought her phone from out of her face.
you and belly laughed while you folded the pink tank and put it in your baby pink suitcase. you got a big matching set from susannah for christmas. "perfect for the beach house!" she singsonged.
"I thought you came here to help us pack." belly said to taylor.
"fine, i'll help. here's a tip, don't bring that speedo. it doesn't do a thing for your new boobs." taylor kneeled on the bed with one leg with the other on the ground.
"taylor is so right." you crossed your arms and examined the black one piece belly was about to fold up.
"it's not a speedo." she said quietly.
"i'm just saying babes. like, you need to pack cute things." taylor shrugged.
"well, i always buy a new suit when i get there." belly countered and put her hands on her hips.
"it's never a cute one thoughhh." you teased her and crossed the room to sit next to taylor.
"yeah, so buy one that doesn't look like you're trying out for the swim team." taylor rolled her eyes.
"are you two serious?" belly giggled at leaped towards you guys.
"yes!" you both echoed while she jumped on top of you and taylor. you squealed and tussled with belly. you laughed so hard you thought your ribs were going to burst.
"belly and y/n were leaving in the next ten minutes!" laurel's serious voice flooded the stairs and into belly's bedroom. laurel is belly's mom. you love laur.
"I got to go!" belly stood up.
"no, you don't!" taylor smiled evilly and grabbed her arm.
"yes!"
"we still have ten minutes." taylor sat up and you did too.
belly sat down and you and the girls snickered at the whole situation.
taylor lied down on the bed sideways to face bells and booped her nose so that she made a face.
"heyyy, me next, huh?" you laughed and rolled off the bed and rested your head on belly's legs.
"okay before i let you both go, you both have to tell me your summer wish." taylor always did something like this. "like the one thing you want to happen this summer."
belly shrugged. "I don't know."
you and taylor exchanged glances then laughed. "you little liar!" you giggled.
"yes, you do! you want a hot make-out with conrad fisher. you want his tongue in your mouth, you dirty little slut." taylor reached her hands for belly.
belly looked away but she still laughed "shut up, taylor!" she grabbed a stuffed animal to fend her off then tapped your shoulder to let you know she was standing up.
"uh oh, I think we made baby belly sad." you whimpered and pretended to cry, taylor did the same.
"I'm just saying, like, you've been in love with him forever." taylor sat up.
"since we were like twelve!" you angled yourself to put your feet in taylor's face and she pushed them away in disgust. your hair was dragging on the floor and you balled it up in one hand.
belly was folding clothes once again.
"you gotta shit or get off the pot." taylor shrugged and put her feet in your face.
"watch out before i take pics and sell them on shein." you warned her and sharpened your eyes.
"a) that's disgusting. and b) it doesn't matter what I do he doesn't see me that way." belly said in a serious, almost hurt tone.
"oh, he'll see you." you said and sized her up.
"whether he wants to or not." taylor played with her hair. belly stopped messing with her bags, I could tell she was eating up every word of ours like candy, even though she wouldn't admit it. "you look a lot different than last summer, belly."
belly smiled. you knew she finally believed what you and taylor had been saying all along.
you stood up to do final touches and check on your suitcase.
"you look so much different too, y/n." taylor shined her teeth at you.
"yeah, yeah."
"I mean not all of us can be naturally beauties, comme moi." she started. "but I guess you're okay, you got your braces off, you got a hella bod, and you finally took my advice in wearing mascara. plus, your style doesn't hurt either, it's giving, innocent beach girl. but show a little more cleavage, it works for me!" you put down the suitcase and tackled her on the bed.
"you're so full of yourself, taylor!" you said in between giggles. belly was smiling to herself.
