the first night at the beach house susannah always cooked a feast for dinner. she didn't cook dinner a ton, but when she did it was always great.
you decided to tie your hair up into a messy bun, your hair was greasy from the pool anyways and you wanted to shower after dinner so you might as well keep that grease off your back.
you took off your Nike blazers and put them next to your air vent so you could attempt to dry them off. you were thrown into the pool with your clothes and shoes on so you had to change into something else. you hung up your skirt and tank and decided to just go simple. you put on gym shorts and a cousins t-shirt you found in your drawer.
you skipped downstairs in your wet socks, and almost slipped many times.
when you were seated next to belly, jere was looking over at something on steven's phone, they were both laughing.
"steven, i swear to god, if you look at that phone one more time i'm putting it in the screen basket." laurel warned.
"its just, we want to see your beautiful faces!" susannah saved the mood and picked up her wineglass. "can dinner be a screen-free zone? you know, like the olden days?" laurel and susannah laughed.
jeremiah shrugged at steven. "steven!" he said and grabbed steven's phone right out of his hands. "ooh!" he pretended to make a shot in basketball with his phone and threw it into the screen basket. "whoop!"
"dude, are you kidding me?" steven asked defensively.
"boooom! nailed it!" jere flexed and you laughed out loud. he smiled at you.
"okay, okay, okay! we get it, you've been working out!" steven chuckled.
"ooh, you're just jealous because jere has a better body than you." belly said all-knowingly. you got a little frustrated at that, you didn't know why. jeremiah sipped his cup of something, maybe coke, embarrassed.
"uh, no, actually it's all about the lean look now, otherwise you can't wear tailored suits." steven said, using hand gestures to get his point across. everybody laughed. including you.
"i bet that's it, steven." you took a sip of your ice cold lemonade. you loved that susannah kept applying your addiction to lemonade.
"wear tailored suits.." conrad repeated.
"sure." jere said.
"when are you leaving for training camp, man?" steven asked, looking at conrad.
conrad looked uncomfortable in a split second and put his hand down.
"uh, he quit football." jeremiah spoke for conrad. there was silence. you and belly looked at eachother, shocked.
"wait, really, you quit?" steven asked, like this was all just some joke.
"mhm.." conrad nodded.
"are you kidding me man? i'd kill to play college ball." steven looked around at the people at the table.
"he can always change his mind." susannah nodded and placed her hands on the table, calmly.
"i'm not gonna change my mind. i was just gonna sit on the bench all season anyways." conrad looked fed up with the conversation already.
"well, if you're not playing football anymore, what are you gonna do all summer?" laurel questioned, almost hurt by his decision, laurel was never hurt.
"oh, dude, you could work at the club!" steven jumped to offer.
"yeah." jeremiah smiled.
"yeah, with me and jere!" steven grinned like it was the best idea he'd ever had."
"no, conrad wouldn't do that." you shook your head and looked at him.
"i'm not gonna work at the club." he confirmed.
"wait, you guys are working this summer?" belly asked.
"yeah! i'm lifeguarding and steven's working at the snack shop." jeremiah said while they did a handshake. belly looked upset.
