PRELUDE CHAPTER [1/2]

Living out of home was something Hope had done from an early age. Being kicked out by her mother at the age of fifteen for being a lesbian, she'd certainly learnt quickly how to live away from her family.

Not only did she have to learn to live away from them, but she had to learn how to completely live without them. Her parents blocked her number, and went to all efforts to tear Angie away from Hope so the sisters had no contact whatsoever.

Hope became a resident of the Avery household, as the boy next door slash childhood best friend took Hope in immediately. Inevitably, she'd become like a daughter to Catherine and a sister to Jackson.

Eventually, the fated best friends moved out to go to Medical school, which had been nothing short of chaotic. The Rodriguez-Avery apartment soon turned into a frat house, curtesy of Jackson... though after getting comfortable, Hope started to bring girls back there too.

Living together had been nice, and while Hope and Jackson were dealing with the highs and lows of Med school, occasionally, when Hope gave herself time to think, she found herself feeling down about her family.

Catalina Rodriguez had once adored her daughter, hoping that Hope would grow into a princess-like girl who would find her Prince Charming... anyway, she couldn't have been more wrong and they certainly drifted apart as Hope got older.

Honestly, Catalina was the one Hope missed the least. She'd always see Catherine as her mother, and not the woman who was trying to shape the ravenette into somebody she wasn't.

And being that she was the opposite of a total princess, she became really close with her father, Andres Rodriguez, who had secretly always wanted a son.

Andres saw Hope as the light of his life, so it hurt the most when he cut her out of it. Andres had taught Hope how to skateboard, how to use tools and fix up cars... and eventually they watched football together too. As a teenager, she wanted to be a mechanic, and her father was her number one supporter. Now, he was nowhere to be seen.

Sweet, bubbly Angelina Rodriguez had been Hope's kryptonite. Though Hope was five years older than Angie, and they really had nothing in common, Hope would do absolutely anything for the happiness of her baby sister... that was until, her parents made her unreachable.

The ravenette had spent a lot of sleepless nights searching the internet for any sort of profile belonging to her sister, so she could find her and reach out, but Catalina certainly made it impossible. It broke Hope's heart to think about, so she tried to focus on her new family, being Catherine Fox and Jackson Avery.

After a night out at a party, Jackson and Hope were nowhere to be seen, tending to their own hangovers. An awkward Caroline Robbins tiptoed around the apartment to make some coffee, without wanting to wake the best friends.

Cara was Hope's latest fling, and though nothing more was going to happen between them, there was certainly a friendship there. The blonde certainly had found herself quite comfortable at their apartment.

As Caroline made a coffee for herself, but also one for Hope and Jackson, she heard a knock at the door. The blonde continued to make coffee, planning to ignore it, until she noticed that it wasn't going to cease. Reluctantly, Cara made her way to Hope's bedroom.

"Hope." Cara spoke, as she noticed a mess of raven curls poking out from the blanket. "Mhm?" Hope mumbled, not moving from her comfortable spot. "Somebody is at the door." The Robbins answered.

Hope groaned in response, which amused Caroline. With that, the Robbins went back to making coffee while Hope dragged herself out of bed.

Throwing on a black hoodie and a pair of black sweatpants, Hope trudged her way to the front door, pulling it open with the expectancy of coming face to face with somebody who was selling something.

She had the shock of her life when the person standing there was her estranged, baby sister.

Standing in an oversized blue knit sweater and lycra pants with a bag in her hands, was Angelina. When she moved her bag to the side, it was clear that she was pregnant.

"Angie." Hope managed to choke out, as tears filled Angie's eyes. "I finally found you!" Angie cried out, before she rushed forward to throw her arms around her older sister.

Hope was taken back by force, before she hugged the younger girl back, still with an expression of shock on her face.

"I've spent so long trying to find you, Hope. Mum and Dad refused to let me find you— they had some stupid idea that you would convince me to become gay too and—"

"Hermana, take a breath." Hope soothed, as she took a step back from her younger sister, as tears had rolled down her cheeks.

"They kicked me out, because I am pregnant." Angie finally admitted, more tears filling her eyes. Hope's eyes averted down to her heavily pregnant stomach, before reality hit in that her baby sister was going to be a mother... and she was going to be an Aunt.

"I need a place to crash.. for a couple days, just until I can find my feet—"

"Say no more, Angelina. You can stay here." Hope assured her sister, as Angie smiled. With that, they hugged again, as neither of them wanted to let go.
