"JADE!!! WAKE UP!! You're late for your first day at a new school," Mom said while pounding on my bedroom door.

"OKAY, OKAY. I'll be down in a minute." I got up and got dressed. I put on my favorite black jeans. They were ripped a few different places, and the tag did not lie when it said skinny jeans. They were really hard to get in and out of, especially since I have thick thighs. I paired those with a red short sleeved shirt that was also a little tight but I liked it because it showed more of my figure. I knew mom wouldn't let me leave the house with just that on since it had rained last night, so I threw on a black jacket and my high tops. I ran downstairs and Mom served me french toast with a cup of apple juice. I ate, ran back upstairs to brush my teeth, then was out the door, on my way to school.

When I finally got to school, I walked into my fifth-period class, which was algebra. Mrs. Woodbury introduced me to the class. "Everyone, this is Jade. Jade, welcome to Hawkins. Why don't you take a seat next to Eddie, there in the back." Eddie looked up from his paper and smiled. I already couldn't wait to meet him.

As I was walking to my seat, Eddie stood up and started clearing a path for me. One of the other boys in the class made a low whistle noise as I passed him. I guess Eddie heard him, too. I wasn't going to let it bother me, but it definitely did not sit right with Eddie.

"Leave her alone. She just got here." Eddie protested. He reached out his hand and led me to our seats.

"Aww, does someone have a crush on the new girl?" The boy remarked.

"Seriously, cut it out, Jason." Eddie sighed.

After a 10 second stare-down with Jason, Eddie arrived back at our seats.

"Sorry about that. Jason can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. You're not uncomfortable, are you?" he asks, concerned.

"No, I'm fine. Thanks," I say, shyly.

"I'm Eddie," he says, reaching out his hand. "It's nice to meet you." he says with a cheeky smile.

"I'm Jade," I smile, shaking his hand.

"So, where'd you move from?" he questions.

"Kentucky. I've been there for as long as I can remember." I answer with a slight smile, missing my home.

"Oh, cool!" he exclaims.

Just as we turned to pay attention, the bell rang.

"Where you headed to next?" Eddie asked as we gathered our stuff.

"The cafeteria, you think you could show me the way?" I asked.

"Sure! You can even sit with me if you'd like." he said, smirking.

"Sure." I replied.

"Great! Right this way m'lady." he waved me towards the door and down the long, crowded hallway.

When we got to the cafeteria, he grabbed our lunches and led me to his table. After I got settled in my seat he introduced me to his friends.

"Okay guys. This is Jade. Jade, this is Dustin, Lucas, Will, El, Max, Billy, Steve, Robin, Mike, Nancy, and last but not least, Gareth."

They all waved and I waved back. Lunch was kinda weird, but it was only because I was new. The rest of them got along just fine. They were all really good at starting and maintaining conversation. I was not.
