"You have got to be kidding me," Rachel said looking at Jason as if he grew another head on his shoulder. "I kid you not miss Roth," he responded. "Come on sunshine, indulge me," he added as he handed her a helmet.
"You are serious," she finally conceded when she saw him get on the motorbike. "You never saw me laughing," he said matter of fact. The rascal -- as per Dick -- had a serious look on his face as he pat the seat behind him. Even if he did not look like it, Rachel knows he is amused.
She would argue that the first time they went out at night -- failing to finish the third Star Wars movie -- he drove a car, but she also can tell he won't budge even if she tried to charm him to reconsider. Charm him to reconsider? Yeah, right. Do you even know how charming someone into your bidding works? Just put the damn helmet on and get this done and over with.
"Regretting your choices Rachel?" she heard him say in her trance. In the span of a couple of minutes, he called her three different names. She wasn't sure how the system of calling one's name works for Jason but he definitely got through her using her first name.
"I'd say yes, but just to wipe the smug look on your face, you wish," Rachel answered with a mocking smile as she put the helmet on. She will later decide if she's going to regret it. She wouldn't know unless she tries.
"There's the girl I know!" Jason said, clapping a hand on his leg. Rachel can only shake her head as she hopped on the bike with him.
Jason instinctively reached behind him for her hand as soon as she was seated. Unbeknownst to him, the gesture made the young lady's heart skip. She didn't need to be told what should be done when riding pillion. Rachel intended to hold onto him and was surprised that his hand met hers halfway.
"I'd tell you it's not necessary to hold on tight but I kind of ride fast," Jason said, looking over his shoulder as he gave her a warning. There it is! The amused look on his face. "I'm anything but a chicken Jason," Rachel responded.
Like the many times he did however, Jason proved her wrong again. At the speed they are going, Rachel thought it won't be long before she wakes up in heaven. Next to Saint Peter as his rooster.
She never thought she'd soon fear for her life again but here she is, praying he wouldn't feel her heart drumming against his back. If he did, he wouldn't let her forget it. She just knows he wouldn't.
Jason can only smirk as he continued to ride fast. He may not have felt the beating of her heart against his back but he sure felt her arms tighten around his waist. He would never admit it but he kind of liked the warmth her body provided in the cold.
"Here we are," he announced after turning off the engine. Rachel almost blurted out 'thank God' but the words got stuck as she juggled between getting off the bike and taking her helmet off. She also actively prevented herself from actually saying anything lest she wants to throw up.
Once on her feet, Rachel stared at the tea shop. "There's an open tea shop at this hour?" she asked even if she's already staring at it. "That's Gotham for you," Jason cheekily responded.
The two of them were the only customers in the shop when they entered. It wouldn't be surprising however, considering the hour. This actually made Rachel more curious about it. Why would a shop like this be open still at this time? It's unlikely for people to get tea at two thirty in the morning.
