Will POV

He knelt down, put the ax away and picked [Y/N] up, who was sobbing and shaking.
"Shhh..." He gently pulled her to his chest and rocked her.
"He can't hurt you... You're safe, Darling..."

Will paused... Damn... The pet name had just slipped out of his mouth...
But [Y/N] either didn't seem to notice or didn't seem to mind... She was freezing cold and completely soaked...

But Will's thoughts were also with the guy out there... He couldn't simply let him run around out there like that! He wanted to go after him right away and confront him... But he couldn't just leave [Y/N] here without protection...
"[Y/N], I know it's hard right now, but did that man have a gun? Could you see that?"

Sniffling, she looked up and slowly brushed her hair back from her forehead. "No... well... I only saw him... He was wearing a mask... But... he was also so fast and it was so dark..."

She started shaking again and Will rubbed her back before simply picking her up and sitting her down on his sofa. He grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around her.
"I have to make a quick phone call, but I won't leave you alone, understand? Just sit here."

[Y/N] nodded and pulled the blanket tighter around her.

"Good girl..." Will mumbled and kissed her forehead.
He didn't care that they weren't nearly there yet in what wasn't really a relationship, but he had to make her feel safe. She was always so strong and independent... Seeing her like that really got to him.

Will went next door to the kitchen where the phone was on the wall and dialed Humphrey's number. He was the head of Wye's 'secret' Home guard group, as he had learned from the housewives yesterday.

The old man answered immediately. "Yes, hello? Who is calling at such an unchristian time?!"

Will would have chuckled if the situation wasn't so serious.
"This is Will Ransome. A man was about to attack [Y/N] [Y/LN] as she was on her way to me. She just made it. Directly after I closed the door he banged on it and then ran off, heading north, I guess. You must immediately activate the phone chain and call everyone!"

"Don't tell me again what I have to do, Reverend. I've been doing this job for quite a while." The old man grumbled and barked for his wife, Gwen, to bring him his phone book.
"Call the police and stay indoors. Not that the lunatic breaks into your house. We'll talk again later."
Then Humphrey hung up.

Will sighed and pressed the switch hook-button. He then picked up Inspector Miller's card and dialed. The house phone was still an key-operated one that was attached to the wall.

"Chief Inspector Miller speaking," the older policeman announced in a weary voice.

"Good evening, Inspector Miller. This is William Ransome."

"Reverend? What's going on?" He immediately sounded alarmed. He knew Will wouldn't just call him like that.

"[Y/N] [Y/LN] was being pursued by a man, or rather already being chased. He must have been masked. I only caught a shadow as I quickly pulled her inside the house and then locked the door.
He then kicked or hit the door, laughed and then ran north. But where exactly I can't say. It was just thundering, and it got dark early."
