Chapter 26

Raven's POV
"M-mom? D-did you see what happened?"

"I didn't. Novie won't tell me what happened."

Marionette sat down next to me. She started rubbing my back.

"B-bug? I need to know what h-happened."

"I just wanted to go to the park!"

"Okay. It's okay. What happened?"

"They started hurting me."

"How?"

She made a fist.

NO!

I started holding her closer to me.

"You're okay. Once you feel better, I'll take you to the park. Okay?"

"Mhm."

"I love you bug."

"I love you daddy."

Novalyn yawned. I sniffled.

"Did you take your nap yet?"

She shook her head.

"I'm scared."

I stood up. I started walking to Novalyn's room. I put her down on her bed. I walked over to the nightlight on. I walked back to her bed. I laid down next to her. She crawled into my arms. I started rubbing her back.
Marionette's POV
"She's never done anything like this."

Someone knocked on the door. Shelia walked over to it. I heard her open it.

"Hey Sheila."

Who's that?

"Hey Nick. I didn't know, you were stopping by."

I don't like this.

Something seems off.

"Is everything okay?"

"Bethany told me what happened."

"Did she admit it?"

"She said they didn't do anything. She said that, it's Raven's fault."

I stood up.

"WHAT?!"

I ran over to the front door.

"Did I really just fuckin hear you say that?!"

"Who the hell are you?"

"Ven's girlfriend. Who the hell are you?"

"I'm Bethany's dad."

My eyes widened.

"You're not taking her."

He pushed me down to the ground.

"What the hell Nick?!"

"She's clearly in my way."

"Raven's been with me all day! There's no way he'd lay even a finger on her! He'd never do that!"

"Am I seriously supposed to believe that?"

"Yes! It's the truth!"

I stood back up. Nick threw me up against the wall.

"Watch who you're talking to bitch!"

"Don't tell me what to fucking do!"

He slapped me.

"Get the fuck away from me!"

He pulled a gun out of his waistband. He grabbed my arm and dragged me upstairs. When we got to Novalyn's room, he pushed me in front of him. The gun went behind my head.

"WAKE UP RAVEN!"

Raven jumped up.

"Nick?! What the fuck?!"

"Give me my granddaughter."

"NO! She's MY daughter! She's safe with me! Your daughter and her asshole boyfriend beat my daughter! I'm not letting you take her!"

"Give her to me! If you don't, this room is gonna be red!"

He took the gun off safely.

"Raven it's okay. It's okay. Take her and get outta her. Take her to my house."

"I-I-I'm not leaving you here!"

"It's fine! She comes first! She can't get taken away from you!"

"Fuck this."

I heard the gun go off. I didn't get shot. Novalyn did.

"NOVA!"

I ran over to her bed. It was quickly getting stained with blood. Raven put her in his lap.

"WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" Raven shouted as his voice cracked.

Novalyn was tugging on Raven's shirt.

Malakai's POV
When I got home, it was quiet. I found Roxana talking on the phone. Marionette and Raven weren't anywhere.

"Hey mom? Where's Mari and Zed?"

"Something happened and they rushed to his house."

"Did they say what?"

"No."

I ran out of the house. I started running towards Raven's house. When I got there, an ambulance was leaving and police cars were there.

WHAT HAPPENED?!

I ran to the house. I ran past cops. I saw Marionette holding Raven. They were both covered in blood. I ran up to them.

"What happened?!"

"Raven looked up at me.

"Nova...got shot."

My eyes widened.

"What?! B-by who?!"

"Bethany's dad man. He was trying to take Nov from me. That's what he must've done."

"Raven no. No. Don't start doing that. Go change and get some clothes together. You're not staying in this house alone."

"Why aren't you with her?"

"Sheila wants him to calm down a bit, before he goes to the hospital."

"I'm gonna lose her! I'm gonna lose her! I-if she makes it t-then the state's gonna take her! I-I just got her back! I-I'm losing her again!"

"No. You're not. Raven go shower."

He got up. He ran upstairs.

"What the fuck?"

"Long story. You don't wanna hear it. We should go get clothes and whatnot together for him. He might be a while."

After Raven showered and we got things ready for him, him and Marionette went to the hospital. I ran back home.
