After what felt like an eternity of walking I reached a small house.
The house was bright and full of life, flowers were planted in every possible place on the small patch of grass that was surrounded by a white picket fence. Hanging on each fence panel was a small plant pot , each filled with different colored flowers that were perfect and fresh looking. The small path leading up to the house was covered in chalk drawings that a child quite obviously drew. A few houses down the neighbour's dog was barking rather loudly, it sounded distressed.
As I slowly walked up to the front door I noticed a sign above the door saying " welcome to our home " in a sort of cursive writing. It was very pretty actually, but a gut feeling was telling me that the sign wasn't intended to be wholesome, but more sarcastic.
knocking on the door I felt a wave of anxiety as if today my anxiety wasn't bad enough.
a woman answered the door, assuming it was the woman I was ordered to meet with about my situation. Lilith green.
" You must be Jasper, come in, " she said with a small smirk on her face. It was almost as if my panicked state and mistakes amused her.
" You do know that you have truly made what could have been a dangerous mistake, it's quite funny actually, you know that they will never trust you again now. you are now a weak link, a possible fatal flaw to the whole operation " Lilith led me to the main room of her house where I assumed the girl I tried to save resigned.
The house had a strong sweet smell. it was almost comforting, the smell gave the house a homely kind of sense but also had a kick to it. We had reached the main room of the house and Lilith was now pointing towards the young girl who was slumped in a chair. she was unconscious, my mind racing wondering if she was already dead.
" I - is sh - sh- she already - "
" Dead? no " she let out a small chuckle " dear boy, that is your job, not mine. you made the mess, you clean it up "
Just as she finished her sentence, the young girl began to stir, waking up looking dazed and scared.
" w-w- where a-am I?" her eyes scanning the room looking for anything she could remember.
her eyes landed on Lilith, she looked enraged but still very dizzy
" y-you, what did you do to me !" her voice got louder and louder
" Calm yourself, darling, what I did to you is not important. I could have killed you, sold you, let men have their way with you " the girl's face turned into a face of disgust " but I didn't know did I"
" You drugged me !" the girl now seemed to be fully awake and aware of her surroundings
" Oh honey, as I said, I could have done far worse, " she said with a smirk. the smirk was unsettling
the girl's eyes next fell onto me, she eyed me up and down as if she couldn't quite place who I was
" It's you ... I saw you, you spoke to me before the shooting, told me to run"
now was not the time for me to act nervous, now was the time for me to be confident and strong
" And did you listen to me, no, no you didn't and now you have landed yourself in a situation that you do not want to be in, " I said with a dark look on my face and a sharp tone . you could cut the tension within the room with a knife.
she looked down with a scared look on her face. It was as if she was trying to prepare herself for what was coming next, but from what I have learned, you cannot be prepared yourself enough when you do not know what is coming next.
" you " Lilith turned to me looking me directly in the eyes
" get her out of my house, my wife will be home shortly and you do not want to be here when she arrives, believe me "
" what will you do with me " the girl spoke up in a demanding tone
" You will find out soon enough, " I said harshly, watching as she deeply stared at me with a furious face.
as we stared at each other for what felt like forever waiting for one of us to back down, she spoke again saying
" And what if I decide I do not want to go with you, what if I decide to kill you before you kill me?"
I let out a soft chuckle, remaining eye contact
" Believe me, love, you will not be the death of me. weak little thing like you, there is no way you would ever be able to kill me. Also, it's quite humorous that you think you have a choice or a say in the matter. You are my problem currently, a problem that is very easy to solve, so do not try to disrespect or one-up me, because it will only end in you losing your life sooner rather than later. Are we clear? "
She remained in eye contact, saying nothing.
" ARE WE CLEAR?" I said now shouting, the volume of my voice making Lilith jolt slightly, the girl not moving or wavering in the slightest.
" crystal," she said rolling her eyes in annoyance, breaking the prolonged eye contact we remained seconds ago
Lilith gestured to the door as if that was our cue to leave
the girl stood up with haste and stood directly facing me
" After you," she said strongly
" well this is going to be fun," I said to Lilith in a quiet voice so only she could hear me
she let out a small chuckle and followed us to the door
" thank you for finding her, " I said to Lilith as we walked out of the door
" don't make it a habit, me helping you. this was a one-time thing "
and with that, she closed the door and I turned to the girl
" so, do you have a name, " I said still talking in an unwavering tone to show her that this wasn't a joke, this is my life now
" And why should I tell you my name? "
" because this could go 2 ways, one being you cooperate and do not complain and I will let you live longer out of pity or two, I kill you now, so it's genuinely up to you lady "
" Florence "
" Great, we're making progress. Do I get a last name Florence ?"
" no, you do not. but you do get to tell me your name now "
This girl was playing a dangerous game with me. even if I didn't particularly want to kill her, I would
" Jasper," I said in an agitated tone
" do I get a last name, Jasper," she said in a mocking tone
" no, you do not get the last name "
maybe I was wrong, maybe this girl will be the death of me.
