(Eda's pov)

My luck hasn't exactly been great over the last couple years, but it got a little better two weeks ago.

I recently found this little stray dog (at least I think that's what he is) in some ruins while hiding from the emperor's coven. He must have been left by his parents because he was all alone. I obviously wasn't going to leave him there so I scooped him up and brought him to my house.

He doesn't talk much but sometimes he squeaks. He also plays a lot of pretend. Mostly he images that he is a ruler and is crushing his rivals to the ground but, you know what, I thinks it's adorable. He even makes models of his subjects out of random stuff he finds in the house. That's why I call him King.

He doesn't normally get into much trouble. That was until a few days ago.

I was making dinner for both of us (maybe I am turning slightly maternal. Gross.) and King was commanding his "subjects" in the other room.

When I stopped hearing him shout out commands in his adorably squeaky voice I didn't think much of it. I just assumed he fell asleep, which he does quite often. There's something about yelling orders at a stack of random items that can really tucker a little guy like him out.

I put the dinner in the oven and went to go check on King in the living room. When I walked in that's when I realized the door was wide open.

"Hooty?!" I asked our house demon in a panic, "where did King go?"

"He said something about adding on to his army of darkness, hoot hoot." Hooty then lunged for a bug. He missed.

"Ok first, where did he go? And second, why in Titan's name did you let him outside by himself?"

"Well I'm not going to stop a young boy from accomplishing his dreams."

"Hooty, he is still a BABY. He can't make it on his own yet."

"Oh. Yeah."

"Just tell me which direction he headed."

"Why didn't you just say that, hoot hoot. He went right over there."

My heart almost stopped. Hooty was pointing right at the forest. King was so little. He could've already gotten scooped up by a winged creature or eaten by a large beast.

I immediately ran off in the direction Hooty pointed. I didn't wait long enough to think of bringing my staff. I couldn't waste any time.

Before I knew it I was already sprinting through the woods. I tried calling out Kings name multiple times but he didn't answer.

"King, please come back." I was begging at this point.

I never realized how much I cared about this dog creature until he was gone. I even bought him a collar and everything.

What had Hooty said before? Something about adding to King's army of darkness. That boy is the cutest. He had such big dreams. Although if I don't find him he might not get the chance to accomplish any of them.

That's it. I'm going to find King if it's the last thing I do.

The first step of finding someone is to think like them, right? So where would King go to add to his army..?

I was getting the feeling that he was bored of stationary subjects. Maybe he wanted real ones. Could King have been trying to catch an animal? It's a possibility.

So where would the animals in this forest be?

I heard a rustling in the trees above and then it hit me. The trees. Of course Kimg would try to look for animals in trees. Maybe he saw a squirrel in a tree and got stuck. In fact that rustling in the trees I heard before might be King!

So I climbed the tree. I have experience climbing things to get away from the emperor's coven, so this wasn't to hard of a task.

I finally got to the top of the tree and saw some fur. That had to be King!

I went to pet the furry animal but I was startled by a squeaky voice saying "Eda, why are you in a tree?"

I almost jumped out of my skin. King's voice was coming from way below me. It turned out that the fur I saw before belonged to a squirrel.

"Oh my Titian, King! What are you doing down there?"

King then mumbled something.

"What did you say?"

"I chased a squirrel out here but I can't climb trees..."

"That information would have been helpful about five minutes ago. I should probably get down now."

When I got down from the tree I gave King the biggest hug and told him how worried I was. He then promised me to always tell me if he was leaving.

"Ok, dinner time." I said as I walked into the owl house.

That's when the burning smell hit me. I forgot to take dinner out of the oven.

"Well dang that's unfortunate. How does takeout sound?"

King squeaked in approval.

"Thank you for coming to get me, Eda." He then said.

"No problem, King." I replied with a smile.
