Just before five o'clock we got up and got dressed. Henry stopped us on our way out, asking if we were coming back here after. Dylan told him about our plans at Parker's and he said he would drive himself. Jill wasn't sure if she would be going or not. It wasn't as humid today, but was still warm. We drive to the field and there's already a few other players from his team there. Coach calls Dylan over to the bench to talk strategy, so I grab my chair and try to find a spot in the shade.
As I'm walking down the far side of the field, Theo comes walking across from the parking lot on this side. He's alone and sees I'm alone too. He starts walking toward me, watching to see if it's okay with me if he does so. I nod at him and I can see his shoulders relax. He's been coming in peace a lot more lately and it has me keeping my guard down more. I never wanted things to be hard and awkward between us. Our paths cross way too much and it's exhausting having to be on guard all the time with him.
"Hey, I'm guessing if you're here that things are okay with you and East."
His tone isn't agitated or snarky. He actually sounds like he's just trying to make sure I'm okay.
"Ya, things are good. Marley staged the whole thing, very convincingly I may add, but she's not going to get her way."
He looks a little nervous and looks around.
"I wouldn't put it past her to try something else tonight. She ran into me earlier at work and was asking me about you."
I close my eyes and pinch the bridge of my nose. This girl is going to be a headache. Can't we have one day where she's not trying to mess with us? Is it that hard?
"She's just gunning for us. I don't get why she can't just leave us alone."
"I tried not to fuel her fire. But she was off. You need to be careful."
He looks serious, and I know he's just concerned about me.
"Thanks for the heads up. Are you going to Parker's later?"
"Ya, I was planning on it. Are you guys?"
"That's the plan."
Parker comes walking up behind Theo, and smacks his shoulder. Then he starts dragging him out to the field.
"You got this boys!"
They both say thanks at the same time and run off. I spot Sammie and Craig coming across from the parking lot where we parked. He kisses her sweetly and then runs onto the field. She comes over and joins me in the shade.
"Hey girl! You okay? You have to fill me in on what happened."
Shoot. I forgot I never updated her after I left the field. Once she's seated I fill her in on everything. I can tell she feels bad for us. Wishing we didn't have to go through all this crap with Marley. Wishing we could just enjoy our time together. She asks what Theo wanted. Saying she saw us talking as they pulled in. I fill her in on that too. She says she'll help me keep an eye out for Marley drama. She tells me all about the slap and how amazing it felt to finally smack that smug bitches face. She then fills me in on their last couple dates. They seem to really fit great together. She says she's having the time of her life with him. I can tell by the way she talks about him and looks at him that she really does love him.
The guys have already started playing. Henry and Jill made it just before they started and decided to sit with us. The game is close the whole time, but Jason gets a goal in with ten minutes to spare. The guys are on their A game tonight. I don't know if I've ever seen them play this in sync. Craig and Carter are working their asses off on defence to help Dylan. It gets down to the last two minutes, and we watch as coach gives the signal for them to line up Parker's trick. I can see the fire in their eyes and the sly smiles on their faces as the whistle blows. The other team gets the ball away from Jason, but Taylor comes up out of nowhere and gets the ball back to Theo. The other team ends up completely blocking Parker, so Theo drives it down the field and ends up scoring. They go wild as the final whistle blows.
