A/N: Hello again! I'm back after a few months with the next chapter. (as I said, updates will be slow with no particular schedule.) Also know that I didn't read this over recently! I will soon and there may be some minor changes, but otherwise it should be fine! Please tell me if there's any spelling or grammar mistakes and I apologize ahead of time if the characters are OOC! Enjoy! :D

Chapter One

Jake English, a sixteen year old living on an island with only his grandmother had only gotten one of these Game Pods a month ago due to all the processes related to getting something so expensive delivered to their island. With it, he also received the newly released game, Level Hopper. Though he loved the adrenaline pumping feeling of adventure on his island, he appreciated the ability to have the same adventures without the fear of death.

As many were, he was playing his new game on the day everything went downhill.

Jake was one who started immediately; directing himself towards a chest someone else was standing near. The boy pulled two juggling clubs, twirling them quickly before running off. Looking into the same chest, he discovered that it was a personal box, giving weapons of choice. Inside lay twin M9 Berettas along with enough ammo to last a few months and holsters he could attach to his belt.

Swiftly checking to make sure his weapons were already loaded, he sighed at the weight in his hands. Jake had real Berettas he brought everywhere with him (along with no less than five computers, like any sensible person) around the island, and the weight of them in his hands always calmed his nerves. Venturing away from the starter chest, Jake holstered one of his new in-game pistols on its respective leg. There weren't enemies nearby enough that using both would be nearly as effective as carefully aiming one. He took a deep breath, aiming with perfect accuracy and killing two distant snow monsters.

The crowd was running around everywhere and they all took a couple hours to clear away. Those couple hours spent practicing shooting by Jake. However, Jake soon realized that there weren't as many people around because they were finding the exit. Meaning he should probably start doing the same. Slight panic rushing through him, he rushed into action, the slowly moving snow right behind him.

The monsters weren't very difficult to kill, especially because he was grinding from afar for a few hours. Despite this, he couldn't for the life of him find where the exit was. The snow boundaries were encroaching and while he was concerned about getting caught and dying, Jake was sure he could find the exit, especially because it was only the first level. He had even played it before, but he couldn't remember for the life of him where the exit had been in this first level.

On hour twenty-four of killing monsters, exploring and looting chests and such for helpful items of any sort, Jake was nervous. He could only see a few people around and they all seemed to be in groups where they were sharing any spoils they had gathered and didn't look like they would want anyone to join them. He sighed and waved the thoughts of dying on level one away as he started actually searching for one of the many exit portals on level one.

At hour thirty, with only six more to go, he had another rush of panic and adrenaline. Especially when the level gimmick kicked in for the area he occupied. A huge blizzard where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Jake hadn't seen anyone in hours and kept peeking around for anyone nearby before the blizzard came along. He kept wondering blindly forwards.

A loud growl startled him into stopping in his slow forward movement. However, realizing he didn't know where this growl came from, he tried spinning around to look for the source. Yet, this only resulted in no longer knowing which direction he was previously headed. The blizzard cleared slightly to reveal a large bear made of snow, as the other monsters had been, only a few feet to Jake's right, allowing both Jake and the bear to see each other. The bear growled again as Jake backed away and soon, it was charging towards him. Jake fumbled his weapons in fear and dropped both guns before tripping onto the floor. The bear was closing in on him. This was the end and his adventure had just begun.
