So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. - James 4:7 (AMPC)
I
t was just the beginning of another day at the office but it had already been an extremely hard one for him. He had had another nightmare in the early hours of the day but this time, he hadn't had the strength to find the Strength he needed. He was too tired and at the breaking point. He had laid in bed staring at his ceiling as he pondered on his failures in getting healed. He even beat himself over the head for not having the strength to mumble a prayer. And of course, it didn't help that his favourite Hublot wristwatch had been taken while he was struggling for a seat in the bus. The company car was still elusive and his mental health was already suffering blows.
He had gotten into work exasperated only to find out that there was a lot of work to be done and almost every one was hell bent on giving him a hard time.
God help me.
He had not even finished whispering the prayer when he heard the slow whistle of another male colleague and the rustle that accompanied it as his colleagues craned their necks towards the aisle leading to his desk. He turned himself only to see Clara strut in in her usual scandalous dressing. Today, it was a blood red low-cut, skin-tight gown that stopped just around her thighs.
"GP, where's the document for the transfer of funds for Mr Babatunde Cole's account?" She asked in that low, seductive voice of hers as she leaned forward against his desk.
GP stared at her for a second, and it took everything in him to stare into her eyes rather than her bosom which she was generously pushing towards his direction as if it was an offering. He stood to his feet and cleared his throat.
Since the first day he stepped into the company, she had done everything to catch his attention but he hadn't been interested and he still wasn't. He only saw her as a sister in Chr-.
Now, I doubt that. She's a sister nonetheless.
"Yes, I have. I did that yesterday."
"Really? Okay. Thanks. I know I can always count on you like one, two, three," she said as her index finger tapped on the knot of his tie three times.
She's smiling. Uh-oh.
Unconsciously, he took a step back.
"Uhm. Was there anything else, Clara?" He asked while trying not to grit his teeth.
He regretted asking instantly because that only made her close the already tiny gap between them, so much that not even air could pass in between them.
In a loud whisper, she answered, "Yes, GP. Can I see you in my office for a second?"
Without waiting for a reply, she turned on her sky-high stilettos in a perfect 180 degree and sashayed away. The moment she stepped out, the other males began to wiggle their brows suggestively while a few sniggered pretending to do their work.
