"Baby I'm a sociopath
Sweet serial killer
On the warpath
Cause I love you just a little too much
I love you just a little too much, much, much,"
Elizabeth belted out as she stirred up the cupcake batter. It was Niall's birthday and she wanted to surprise him at uni with fresh homemade strawberry cupcakes. That was why she got up two hours in advance.
Once she was done, she tiptoed inside the kitchen, towards the cupboard above the stove. After packing up the cooled down cupcakes in her Tupperware box, she got up and did the dishes before she knew she had to head off to uni, before Niall woke up.
She grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter while she was at it and bit into it. She inwardly screamed at the sour taste of the apple but told herself she needed to eat more fruit, so she told herself to suck it up and went out of the door thinking the day will be going just fine.
Elizabeth just finished off her first lecture and was mentally feeling done for the rest of the day, but she knew she had one more lecture to go to until she could go to the cafeteria where she knew Niall would be with the rest of his friends.
So, naturally, she walked up to her locker and switched her books, the ones from the previous lecture with the one she would need for the upcoming one- Cell Biology to Metaphysics.
Metaphysics was her favorite course, so when she applied for studying it in first place, she really hoped she would earn a spot in the lecture. Elizabeth was an avid thinker, and overthinker. So, for that reason, it only seemed natural for her to lie on her bed wide awake, her thoughts scratching the surface of every little thing that encountered her.
Metaphysics fascinated Elizabeth because was the branch of philosophy that dealt with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.
She walked up the stairs that took her to the lecture hall upstate and wondered what the lecture would included today.
She couldn't pay attention to the lecture for too long, though, because that was when Niall came in with him. And funny enough, after everything, she could still only see him with everyone else blurred out, once he came into her view. He didn't spare her one glance, though, as he laughed at something that presumably Niall, or his other friends told him when he pushed through the people that struggled to find their seats.
She scanned him over and over and over again, and though something clearly seemed different, he was still the same person she was married to.
Is married to.
A slight migraine overcame her because he looked just as much in shape as he did a year ago. The only visible difference to him was that he'd outgrown his hair. And it suited him, so much.
When does anything not?; she asked herself.
She broke out of her trance once Niall was the one to walk past her seat and stretched his hand out to her to grab. She squeezed it three times and wished him a hushed happy birthday, to which he squeezed back and smiled in appreciation. He didn't know what Elizabeth had planned out for him yet.
Should she tell him about him? Or should she just leave him out of their friendship? That didn't sound possible though, because even though it was the first time she'd seen him around Niall, and around here altogether, she didn't think sustaining a friendship with Niall, and ignoring him would work in each other's favor.
But the only thing she could do at the moment was to wait up until after the lecture.
__
So she did.
At the moment, she was sat down in the cafeteria at their usual table, and Rooney was already sat there too, both waiting for the birthday boy, both coming from different lectures.
"So, whaddaya have in that bag, Lizzy? You kept carrying that thing around the whole day. What is it, huh?;" Rooney wanted to know.
Rooney had been so nice to her ever since Niall introduced her to him and his other friends he always hung out with. But today, he brought him. She didn't even know he was in their class?
She sighed, and looked down to her bag.
„Oh, it's just the cupcakes I baked for Niall, you know since today is his birthday and all. I thought I would give them to him once he arrived here. I mean, I guess waiting is no big deal, right? It's his birthday after all and-," Lizzy looked up to him realizing she was talking way too much. She probably looked crazy at that point. She felt her face growing red from the way Rooney was staring at her, so she averted her gaze to the window that led her view to the people spending their lunch break outside.„Lizzy you know that I'm no stranger, right? I would never judge you for anything. What are you so nervous for? C'mon, tell me!," he pressed, not really wanting to pry or anything- just wanting to be there for a friend more than anything else. Even though curiosity never ended up killing the cat. Well, at least not his.
As Lizzy outweighed the options that were on her table, to tell him that she was anxious about seeing someone she never stopped loving that treated her like garbage or not, Rooney got up from his side of the table and went to Lizzy's, sitting down right next to her.
Right before she or he, for that matter, could even say anything, Niall and him finally turned up.But Lizzy didn't know if she was supposed to feel relief because she doesn't have to tell Rooney anything anymore or panic for obvious reasons.
Probably the latter, though,.
