Elizabeth had finished packing her brown leather bag that she knew had belonged to her mother, and struggled not to dwell too much on the thought of her, as she had done that plenty of times, and nothing but bad energy ever came out of it.

Today, Niall was supposed to pick her up from the old playground location a few blocks away from where her house was actually located at. She decided to start anew, so why not trust a kind fellow student that shares a couple of classes with her? She knew that, because that day she bumped into Niall, he ended up asking around for her number, because when he was going to ask her, she had already stormed out of their uni, so there was that. And Niall had called her a few days later, explaining everything up to that point and then telling her how nice of a girl she seemed to be and how sure he was they would become great friends in the future.

And she was hesitant at first, because she didn't want to be judged. She knew she was different from other uni students and that that was something that everyone saw, except for Niall, it seemed.

But then she remember that she prayed for so long for that exact thing she mourned over to happen, and then she decided that she would agree to anything he would ask of her.

He seemed trustworthy anyway, so she said yes to him picking her up and driving her to uni, which brought her to today.

And now, with her old, brown leather bag that belonged to her mother, she put on her old leather boots that had nothing special on them that would make them stand out, if anyone ever wanted to take a look at them -- which wouldn't happen anyway. At least her brown boots matched her brown jacket that was made out of leather as well. She somehow had a fascination with everything leather. And she also had vegan friends who disapproved of that, but she didn't give a single shit. Those friends are all gone now, they still ring up Elizabeth from time to time, but most of the time, they are way too busy with their jobs. They left once they finished high school, leaving Elizabeth behind.

But it was her life and the person Elizabeth strived to be was not ashamed for liking the things she did.

She sighed because she knew deep down, that the happiness she currently felt was fake. Her mother used to write in her diary that happiness was just like a butterfly, she tried to catch it like every night, but it escaped from her hands into moonlight every single time. Elizabeth, of course, related to that.

She was still shaken from the incident before she moved rooms yesterday. She felt anxiety rush up her neck and face, and suddenly what she saw in front of the mirror in the lobby of her own house now was someone she didn't see in a long time.

This girl in the mirror, she wasn't Elizabeth. The girl she saw was a past version of herself, that she, oh so desperately, wanted buried away in the past, in the smokey ashes of the love she had felt for someone who didn't care just enough.

And suddenly she snapped out of it. She didn't wanna do that today, she said to herself.

So, she went into the kitchen to grab a banana and an apple, and scurried out of the door with her brown leather bag perched on her back and a big, constant smile on her face, ready to fool everyone. Today was her day.

__

Sat in the car now, she didn't feel awkward or anxious anymore. Niall seemed to make it better, somehow, by telling her about the past happenstances of his days she didn't show up to uni. Apparently, a lot had happened - and that made her anxious.
