I opened the door to our home and noticed my mother and father in a deep conversation with each other. They stopped talking once they saw Britney and I walk in the door and head near them.
"Hey Mommy," Britney grinned as I laughed at her excitement, "Hey mom. Hey dad."
"Hey sweethearts," Our mother, Pamela "Pam" Allen, smiled as she looked at us.
I decided to tune out our mother and Britney's conversation and turned towards our father, Timothy "Tim" Allen, and asked the question that's been on my mind since I saw him as we came home. "What're you doing home Dad?"
Before he could respond, our mother jumped into the conversation, "How was school?"
"School was school," I spoke with a roll of my eyes. The last thing I wanted to talk about was school, I would rather poke my eyes with a pitchfork than go back.
Our mom chose to transfer the conversation onto Britney, who she hoped would keep the conversation going, "And how was practice?"
My sister who was ecstatic didn't understand our mother's motive but nonetheless still responded, "Great as usual. The squad loves our new routine and plus, we're auditioning for a tv show."
"Oh, sweethearts, that sounds fantastic. Did you hear that Tim?" Our mom sent a pointed look towards our father who I then noticed held a distressed look in his eyes, "Yes, Pam. I heard. Wow, this is going to be harder than I thought."
"Alright, so what's wrong?" Britney asked as she crossed her arm, beginning to grow irritated from our parents' dramatics.
Our mother answered Britney's question when she noticed our father wasn't going to, "Girls, Tim lost his job and we're going to have to take a pay cut."
"The company's relocating to Crenshaw Heights," Our father continued before closing his eyes, mentally and physically preparing himself for an explosive tantrum from either one of his children, or possibly both.
"Wait, so we're really," I started as I had sunk in the meaning of his words. They gave me a sympathetic nod and I began to cringe at how much I knew this was going to affect Britney. As much as it bothered me, I knew she'd had a harder time since she was more attached to everyone there.
"Oh, daddy, you'll have such a long commute," Britney sadly sighed going to hug out father. It was apparently not obvious to Britney that we were all going to be leaving Pacific Vista together, or maybe she did know but just didn't want to actually believe that she was leaving her "dream life" behind.
Our father sighed before contemplating over his next few words, "No, I won't, Britney. We are moving to Crenshaw Heights."
Britney turned to me, causing all of us to think that she finally understood what dad meant, "I'm really going to miss you guys and I hope that you know that I am not letting Aurora go with you, she's staying with me."
Our parents cringed at her words so before I decided to take initiative, I grabbed one of Britney's hands and softly reworded what my parents tried to say, "Brit, we are all moving to Crenshaw Heights. You. Me. Mom. Dad."
Britney's eyes widened before she looked at our parents in pure anger, "Are you insane? I just made captain! Aurora has an A in all of her classes, and she was so close to becoming my co-captain."
"Wait what?" I added trying to comprehend the last part of her statement.
Our mother disregarded my comment and tried to comfort Britney who was taking it a lot harder than I was, "Honey it's still early in the year. You'll transfer to another school. Look sweethearts, you both are smart, beautiful and blonde. You'll make plenty of friends. It'll be fine."
Britney rolled her eyes, proceeding to cross her arms, "Yeah, it's fine for you guys, you're old." I pinched her arm causing her to wince, but she still continued her earlier statement, "Your life is over but ours is like seriously just getting started. I mean come on, we're seniors, my boyfriend's a quarterback, and we're cheerleaders - damn it!" and with that ending to her speech, Britney stomped the whole way up to her room. I shook my head at Britney's dramatics, don't get me wrong I loved my sister, but she could be a bit of a brat sometimes.
"She'll get over it at some point soon." I smiled at my parents trying to reassure them that the move was okay. It's better than our father not having a job at all or being randomly homeless if I was being honest. I walked up the stairs before stepping into my sisters' room who I knew was going to want some company and comfort at the moment.
"Brit..." I muttered as she hummed in response looking at me with bloodshot eyes, "What's wrong sweetie?" She sighed before moving over and gesturing over for me to sit beside her on her bed.
"I don't want to move. I just — it feels like I have to start over a chapter that is literally about to finish!" Britney sobbed as she wrapped her arms around me. "It's okay Brit, it might suck at first but maybe this will be better for us. We might genuinely enjoy this new school." I sighed while holding Britney a little tighter than before as she continued to cry hoping to console her.
"How about this? Let's watch Bring It On, you know the one with Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and Gabrielle Union? I know it's one of your favorites." I suggested softly smiling just as Britney nodded with a laugh, "Okay."
As soon as she agreed, I walked out of her room to go get the Bring It On film seeing her already laying on her bed with a few snacks beside her. I put the DVD into the DVD player and grabbed some snacks for myself sitting myself upright allowing for Britney to lay her head on my lap. "You know, if I was ever in a Bring It On film, I think I would want mine to be called Bring It On: All or Nothing," I confessed causing for Britney to laugh loudly as she agreed that it had been a great name for a film. We stayed like this until we both fell asleep knowing that tomorrow we would have to tell our friends about the sudden change in our lives.
