"If you leave, who's going to help me remember my locker combination?" Sierra questioned curiously as she looked in my direction. I shrugged before smiling sadly, "Oh, Sierra, it's your birthday." We were gathered around the cheer squad, Brad and some of our other friends from Pacific Vista ultimately telling them of what had occurred the previous day.
"My birthday is April."
"Sweetie, your combination is the digits of your birthday," Britney added sweetly causing for a look of realization to cross onto Sierra's face.
"Oh! What are digits?"
Seeing as we were getting nowhere with Sierra, we all tried to avert our gaze elsewhere just as Amber spoke, "We're really going to miss you two Aurora and Britney. IMYA." Before we could respond Brianna quickly swallowed the rest of the chocolate she had been eating before putting her two cents in as well, "Yeah, I miss you two already too."
"Oh, guys, I'm going to MYAT," I started just as Britney pouted and nodded as well, "Yeah, I'm going to MYSM."
"D-A-M-N..." Sierra spelled causing everyone to furrow their brows at her response. Before I could speak up and correct her, Brianna frowned and spoke up for everyone, "Sierra, you're not speaking IM. You're just spelling."
"Oh, well then S-H-I-T."
I laughed loudly at Sierra whereas Britney smiled widely and pulled her in for a hug and told her that she loved her. As sad as this situation was, it had me think. Crenshaw Heights was only an hour away and we all had been making it seem as if it were a ten-hour drive, "You know, Crenshaw Heights is only an hour away. We obviously can still be friends."
"Yeah, but we can't enter the audition without a captain," Amber reminded Britney before throwing a smile my way to demonstrate that we obviously were still going to try and hang out even if we were an hour apart.
"Actually, we have a captain," Winnie began as I rolled my eyes causing for her to smirk, "Me."
"Get over yourself Winnie," Amber and I simultaneously spoke giving each other a grin at how we obviously felt the same over the situation even though we both knew she was right.
"No, she's right," Britney started looking at all of us glumly before continuing, "Spirit law states that if the head cheerleader has to step down, the next cheerleader with the highest amount of votes is captain."
"Thank you. And I promise I'll use everything you taught me."
"Wait, wait. Babe, you're not going to be cheerleader anymore? And not even Aurora?" Brad panicked looking at both Britney and I with widened eyes.
"My business has nothing to do with you," I muttered just as Britney nudged me, "I can't. I have put my heart and soul into this squad. Cheering with anyone else would honestly just make Aurora and I..."
"Two cheer whores," Winnie loudly exclaimed staring at me. I could give less than two shits about what she thought of me, I was going to cheer again whether they liked it or not. I also know that I'm going to keep my mouth shut until this conversation is almost completely over because I don't want anyone overreacting right now in the middle of the conversation.
"Exactly, my cheer days are over. Aurora's might as well be over too," Britney frowned just as Brad rolled his eyes thinking he had gone unnoticed but Amber, Brianna and I had seen it and our glances towards each other confirmed just that we all saw the exact same thing.
"You have to swear. Swear to us that you're never going to cheer again," Winnie started resulting in the entire cheer team to look at her as if she had grown two heads. She was doing the most. So, what if we wanted to cheer again, what did it have to do with her?
"Brit, Rora, you don't have to do this," Amber started as I nodded knowing full well that I hadn't even thought about agreeing to begin with.
"I swear," Britney spoke up before everyone turned to me, "No. Kiss my ass."
"I would," Brad whispered to himself before coughing making everyone shrug at his behavior.
"So you'd rather be a cheer whore?" Winnie smirked just as Amber flicked her forehead, "Leave her the fuck alone Winnie, she can do what she wants."
"Fine, whatever. Let's make Britney's proclamation official," Winnie smiled deterring the conversation from what had just happened as she got up and motioned for the cheer squad to follow her onto the football field. Sebastian and Alex began to dig a hole and threw Britney's pom-poms in before filling the hole up with dirt once they realized that I was serious about continuing to cheer. "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Now you're not a cheerleader, that must really suck," The cheer squad recited just as Britney dropped to her knees whispering that she couldn't do it as she tried to retrieve her pom-poms back.
This was becoming ridiculously stupid.
"This is a sad cheerless day," Brianna brought up hugging Sierra with one arm and holding my hand with the other.
"I know. Those poor dead pom-poms," Sierra sighed. I smiled at her before placing my hand on her head and rubbing it softly with a small laugh escaping my lips at her words.
"Put them back," Winnie sternly said as I groaned when she pried Britney's pom-poms away from her. "No!"
Amber must've also noticed how dumb this situation had been becoming because she decided to jump in and try to pull Winnie off of Britney. "Leave her alone," Amber groaned annoyed at Winnie's common behavior by this point.
"She's screwing up everything," Winnie confessed as the cheer squad looked at each other in confusion to what she actually could've possibly meant.
"No!" Britney yelled out once more before trying to run away. Winnie got up and tackled Britney before they both fell back into the dirt. If I was Winnie, I would've just given up, I mean seriously you're fighting with someone over a pair of pom-poms. "This is stupid," Amber reminded them as they continued to ignore her and the rest of us around them.
"Please let me keep my pom-poms and I swear, as God is my witness, I will never do another toe-touch again!" Britney cried out, hitting Winnie with her pom-poms in the face as Amber tried pulling Winnie off Britney by the legs.
"Winnie just let her cheer, it's not like it'll affect you anymore. We're literally going to be at a whole different school." I sighed only to end up receiving a glare in response from Winnie who continued to pull at Britney's pom-poms.
