Chapter One

I didn't know what I expected from tonight.

Ellie and Sam had begged me to go out with them.

Not to sound cliche and be like every other girl who doesn't go out and hates socializing. But it was the truth. I didn't understand going out to bars ,getting wasted and hooking up with some random guy. I liked going to a local cafe and talk with my friends about things we liked and catch up on life. I sat in front of the mirror in Ellie's room, legs crossed and ready to do my make up.

I could see Sam in the reflection going through her bag and wondering what to wear. Sam is what I called an "on and off" friend. I didn't necessarily agree with her morals, but that didn't seem to bother her. She loved flaunting her friends money and bragged about the cars she'd be driven in and the houses she would stay at. Had a new boy toy every week. (That's not an exaggeration. I wish I was kidding) But what did that make me if I was hanging around with her. She was fun to be around and she lightened up the room. We had been friends since middle school. That was always my excuse as to why I still hung out with her.

"What's wrong, Lu?" Ellie said with a concerned look.

Ellie was my best friend for as long as I could remember. At one point in time, we hangout EVERY SINGLE DAY one summer. She was my rock and I knew I could come to her with anything on my mind. I was convinced that we could reach each other's mind sometimes. She knew exactly what to say exactly when I needed it. She was super funny and weird, but so was I.

I guess I started to think about it so hard that it had affected my mood. I gave her fake smile.

"What. Nothing. I was just thinking."

I had been blessed with a resting bitch face. It was blessing but also curse. It would scare the boys away, sadly, but It would also prevent unwanted situations to occur. I could be out with my favorite people and in my favorite place but I'd still be wearing that horrible face. But then if I tried smiling I looked sinister. I laughed to myself and kept applying my moisturizer.

"Kates gonna be here in 20 mins. She said, and I quote, "You guys better be ready when I get there or you're walking" Ellie announced.

I did my full face of make up and slipped on a satin grey dress I had stolen from my sisters closet. I adjusted my hair and made sure the waves sat nicely. We took a quick mirror pic and headed out the door.

While in Kate's car, Sam, Ellie and I sat in the back while Ben sat in the front. Sam presented me pictures of some of the people we were on the way to have dinner with. One of them was a skater boy ( Carter) who I would've considered a possibility, but he had a gf :/ The other was the kid Kate was dating for a while now, Ryan.

And the last person she had shown me was a fine ass man. Hawaiian, dark hair, subtle stubble, and an illuminating smile. Mark was his name. That's when I had to take the phone from her hands and take a better look at his page and see what he was about. I could tell he was a sweetheart by the modest Instagram posts, He had a gorgeous golden retriever. Reminded me of Ellies. And I could tell he was funny from his stupid captions. He knew he was attractive, but he didn't flaunt it.

"I call dibs," Sam exclaimed. I rolled my eyes, handing her back the phone, sitting back, looking out the window. There went my chances with him.

"There's gonna be a whole bunch of people there." Sam reassured me.

We arrived at the restaurant. Louis Bossi's. It was such a beautiful restaurant. We walked in and I looked around. I saw a huge table set up for about 30 people. I nudged at the girls and pointed at the table. The hostess walked us over and we sat down. Two of the guy's Sam had showed me, were there. Carter and Ryan. Carter sat next to his girlfriend. Skylar, I believe her name was. And of course, Kate next to Ryan. Everyone looked super good and I'm glad I didn't look out of place. I sat next to Kate and Ellie sat next to me followed by Sam.The rest of the table was composed of a few unfamiliar faces and a few spots were still empty.
