Max and I where having a late lunch when my phone started to ring. "Alpha Spike?" I answered. "Good Afternoon Sheriff Spike."
"There has been another robbery." Spike said. "More stores has been robbed."
"Okay, We're on our way." Then I hung up. "There has been another robbery."
"Where?" Max asked.
"More multiple locations."
"Let's go."
I got a text from a cop. "Go to the mall, there has been a fire."
"Yes, ma'am."
When we arrived at the mall parking lot we spoted Spike and he waved us over. "I'm glad that you two are getting along better than when Cat first got here." He said when we got out of the car.
If only he knew how good we got along. "What happened here?"
"After the place was robbed and then everything went up in flames."
"Can I look around?" I asked.
"No, I'm putting my foot down and having you stop the investigations." Spike said.
"What? No, you asked for my help." I argued.
"Its getting to dangerous for you and your uncle and dad would be upset if you got hurt."
"This is bullshit." I raised my voice. "I've been in danger more than I can count on my hands and toes. I will continued this investigation."
"I order you to stand down. You are own witness to his voice, you will stay away from any crime scenes until I say it is safe for you."
"I'm here to help and that is exactly what I'm going to do."
"Cathrine Kaynine, I will be contacting your father."
"I'm not some teenager that you can order around."
"I will treat you like one if you don't back off." He said firmly. "Now, do I need to call your dad?"
"You dont need to do that." I'll let him think that he won this round. Its like every other presint that I have to go up agenst. I turn and walked away but then I turned back. "Alpha Spike, someone is bother me?"
"Who?"
"You are bothering me." I turned and left. When we got to the car, the wind picked up and a piece of paper flew into the seat. I picked it up and looked at the time.
"Cat, whats wrong?"
I got into the car. "Shut the doors."
"Okay, whats wrong?"
"I need to talk to one of these fire fighters. I need you to distract Spike."
"How?"
"Anything. Just until you see me get back into the car. Give me thirty seconds."
I watched Max go up to Spike. "Hey Sheriff, I was wondering if you got a hold of my application?"
"I did and I was about to call you."
I slipped to one of the fire men. "Excuse me, what time do you think the fire started?"
"Due to how long the fire was going and this part is almost gone, I think about an hour, due to the bricks."
"Thank you." That was about all I can get before they start asking questions about my where abouts.
Then I got to the car and shut the door. "Off I go." Max came to the car and we got out of there quickly. "What did you find?"
I held up the paper. "Max, this is a loan receipt. This was dated twenty years ago but not from here. The guy was here an hour ago. He's not far."
"So, where to?"
"Back to Miami. Thats where it was dated."
I showed him the recept and then he floored it to Miami. "Who are we seeing?"
"A loan shark." Humans think that loans sharks are just people, but actually, they are really sharks.
"Cat, I know of this family of sharks that are known for big loans. But who we are looking for is the Shark Alpha's treasurer. He can be a bad ass when it comes to collecting money but hopefully is nice when we ask questions."
We took the long way to Miami.
We went to the biggest under above water hotel in Florida.
"So what about this hotel that makes it so hot?" I asked. "What do you know about loan sharks?"
"Yeah, so they are more dangerous than the mafia. When we meet them, don't talk back, don't cut yourself or bleed in anyway, don't insult them, and whatever you do, this is important, don't leave my side if you go off on your own, I won't be able to find you."
"Okay."
