Phone rang. "It's already late in the morning. I need to take a bath." He immediately ran to the bathroom. After taking a bath, he grabbed his towel. His mom called. "Josh, you are almost late. Wake up!"
"Yes, mom. I'm preparing." At the dining table, his mom asked him about his studies. "How's your school, son? Is it doing fine?" He grinned. "Yes, mom. It goes well. Just trust me." "Okay!" Brushing his teeth quickly, he then went out to wait for a tricycle to go to school. "I only have 10 minutes left. I need to hurry."
After a few minutes, there was a tricycle, and it was exactly going to school. "Thanks, God! Finally, there's already a tricycle." Josh's house is not that far from school. They live in a place near the highway. When he arrived at school, he said, "Thank you!" While walking on the pathway, someone tapped his shoulder, and it was his classmate, Jane. "Hey, we're almost late. I thought I was the only one who was going to be late." He laughed. "Same here. I thought the same, too." They immediately walked toward their classroom.
"We only have 2 minutes to go inside the classroom," Jane exclaimed. "Do we have a quiz today? I'm not sure." He checked his notebook. "There's no scheduled exam today," Jane guffawed. "Oh, I see. Thanks, G!"
They were exactly at the classroom door when his classmate John approached him. "Hey, Josh! You are almost late, again." He snickered. "As usual, bro!"
"You're not learning. How lucky you are; you're so favorite with our teachers." He laughed at his classmate when their teacher went inside the classroom.
"Good morning, class! How are you today?" It was so early in the morning, starting their class period with history. Joshua's favorite subject was this one. Their teacher wrote on the board a question about it. "Can anyone give me the difference between a historian and a maritess?" Everyone raised their hands. Joshua was a favorite student, and at the top of his class, their teacher called him to answer the question. "Okay, Joshua. What's your answer?" He stood up and poised himself to answer. "A historian studies important happenings in the past supported with substantial and factual evidence. A maritess is someone who gossips without reliable information and sources. That's all, ma'am." He sat down. Beside him was his classmate, Erick. "You are so good, man."
"Good job, Josh! What a nice explanation!" Everyone clapped their hands. "Historian is for history. Maritess is for gossip. Do you understand what I tend to impart in class?"
"Yes, ma'am," Jane jubilantly said. "If history says that you were broken by your ex before, then it will never be revised to the fact that you were once a broken person." His classmates were elated. They were all cackling because of what his classmate had said. "That's right, Jane! If you were once a broken person, then it will never change the fact that once in your life, someone broke your heart."
"Right, ma'am." Erick agreed with a loud sound. "Someone hurt me before, but I moved on." His classmates boomed at him and laughed. "That's enough, class!" It was a discussion full of fun when the bell rang. They were waiting for their second-period teacher. Josh was busy reading a book and sitting on his chair. Leo approached him. "Hey, Josh! Can I disturb you for a while?" He nodded. "Yes, why?" Leo grabbed the chair and sat in front of Josh. He asked for advice from Josh. "What will you do if one day you found out that your girlfriend is cheating on you?" Josh was shocked by what his classmate uttered. He grinned. "Is that a serious question? Are you broken?"
"Yes, I am." He tapped his classmate's shoulder. "For real?" He didn't even know what to do. He had no experience at all being in a relationship for his whole life. Then someone asked him for some advice. "Well, I don't know what to say about that. But, I have something to share. She cheated on you in the first place, and cheating is an act of being an untrustworthy person." He grabbed his chair closer to Leo's and then spoke to him. "You know, if she loves you, she will never do things that will ruin your relationship. If I am that person who found out that my girlfriend was cheating on me, then I will give up on our relationship no matter how strong we've stayed together. It is not the love that matters here now, but the trust that was broken."
Leo cried. "Thank you, Josh. You're such a friend." Josh hugged him without knowing that his classmates were staring at them, having no idea what had happened to them.
"Oh, so sweet!" Sarah said in mockery. "Are you both in love with each other?" Jane added. Everyone was smiling at them and giving them a teasing stare.
"Whatever you're thinking, that's not true. Leo just came here to ask for advice from me. And that's all." He is wide-eyed at them. Sarah got her lipstick inside her bag and then put it on her lips. "I told you, Leo. Why not choose me? I'll never break your heart." She gave him a seductive smile while licking her tongue. Everyone giggled in the classroom. "You're not his bet. Don't be assuming. Come on, baby!" Erick licked his tongue while teasingly staring at Sarah. "Yucks!"
Hours later, a man wearing white entered their room. It was their English instructor. Everyone quickly arranged their chairs and tables. Everyone said it in unison. "Good morning, sir!"
"Did I tell you that we're going to have a quiz today?" Everyone was shocked after hearing the words uttered by their teacher. Leo raised his hand. "You didn't tell us, sir. You only told us to read the story."
"Oh, I see. Thank you, Mr. Leo, for reminding me. Why are you all so shocked?" They chortled after hearing that there was no scheduled quiz today. "We're just shocked, sir."
"Okay, open your book to page 149." Joshua got his book inside his bag. Erick was sitting beside him, forgot to bring the book. So he asked Joshua if he could share his book with him. Josh and his classmates listened attentively to their teacher's discussion. It was about an hour when the bell rang. Everyone packed up their things to get out of the classroom for their free time.
"Josh, will you go with us?" Jane asked. "Yes. At the cafeteria?" He then grabbed his bag. "As usual, let's go." Josh and Jane, together with their classmates, went to the cafeteria for their lull.
