Mrs Martin adjusted her shades. Wearing them at that time of the day was absurd but she couldn't risk being spotted. She checked her wristwatch it was almost 8 pm. Her husband would soon be home and there was still no sign of the person she was waiting for. She picked up her bag and was about to leave when she saw him walking towards the cafe.
He took his seat and ordered a bottle of soda.
"what took you so long Dave?"
"I had urgent business to attend to ma'am."
"How much progress have you made? I don't like the way it's being delayed," she said almost in a whisper.
"I don't like the delay too. I can't wait to get the remaining payment. But I have to be patient to execute the job perfectly." Dave replied.
"Don't mess with me, Dave. I gave a job to a certain bastard years ago. He didn't complete the task and still collected full payment. If you won't do this job tell me, I won't let you go easily if you make any costly mistake."
"Relax ma'am. I've been in this business for years, I know what I'm doing. We need to be a bit patient." he paused and looked around before continuing. "It would be quite difficult to kidnap the lady. Her boss hovers around her like a bird of prey. According to what my men observed, She has an undercover bodyguard and he's not working alone."
"Undercover bodyguard?" She asked in a surprised tone " Why?"
"At first I was confused about why the men were stalking her. Then I trailed one of them and I saw him enter Mr Daniels's car. I speculate that she's having an affair with Mr Daniels and he's obsessed about her safety. " Dave said.
" I don't think that's the case. " She remembered how Henry treated Linda after their wedding. It was simply impossible for him to have an affair with Linda's twin sister. Her husband said they chose to hide the truth from Mabel, why then was Henry trying so hard to keep her close?
" Something isn't right somewhere. We need more information on the recent developments. someone might be suspicious that Mabel's life is in danger and must have told Henry." She said trying to connect the dots. "you're right Dave we have to be patient, so we don't end up walking into a trap. In the meantime let's try to find an answer to why my ex-son-in-law is acting strange. I know just the right person to get the answer from."
She gave a crooked smile.

Mr Martin stroked his chin as he watched his wife from a taxi across the street, deeply grateful to the person that brought up the concept of a glass wall.
He tried to take pictures but none of them showed the face of the stranger she was with so he waited in the cab till they left the cafe.He crossed the busy street and made his way to the cafe. He looked around briefly then he walked up to a lady that seemed to be someone important. After greeting politely he asked to speak with her privately.
At first, she refused to let him see any CCTV footage without seeing an I.D. to prove he was an inspector carrying out an investigation. But then money could easily sort something like this. He dipped his hand in his jacket and brought out a bundle of money which she collected discreetly. After that, she led him to a small office and he was able to take some pictures of the stranger from the CCTV footage.
He called Henry and relayed everything. "I don't know what they discussed but she might be planning to do the kidnapping soon. Everything is under control... Like inspector Charles said. We need to carefully lure them into our trap."
*****The day went by slowly. It almost seemed as if nature knew how anxious Henry was and wanted to relieve him of his fear the little way it can. If everything goes as planned today will be the day Mrs Martin will attempt to kidnap Mabel. Mr Martin was still listening to her every conversation with her henchmen. She strictly instructed that she wanted Mabel alive and unharmed. Henry was sceptical about trusting her words but Mr Martin was certain that his wife had no intention of killing Mabel.
