03 - Lies and Blood

Super sorry that it took me such a long time to update! My schedule has been pretty hectic since September and I haven't had time to properly sit down and write >.< I hope I can continue to update after I finish with my work! The stench of disinfectant and latex gloves permeated the hospital and the eerie silence was only interrupted by Ryan's feet banging on the wall behind him. It seemed that you had been here for hours already.

"Would you stop swinging your feet?" Mrs. Emily asked sternly, "It's quite rude."

"But moooom! I'm bored!" Ryan resorted.

You, Ryan, and Mrs. Emily were all visiting the hospital today. When you told Mrs. Emily that Ryan had fainted, naturally she was worried and took Ryan to the hospital the very next day she was available. She took you along with them because you told her that you were next to him when Ryan had fainted. You also managed to convince Ryan to side with your story... with a fee of $5 of course.

Did you feel guilty about this blatant lie? Yes. But did you want to ruin the trust that Mrs. Emily had in you and on top of that also lose your only source of income? Of course not! You had to admit that you understood how trashy your behavior was, but you really needed the money for college. Classes started next semester and since you were studying a bit further away from home, you needed to be prepared.

"Mrs. Emily?" A young, dark-haired man popped his head into the claustrophobic room, stuttering you back from your thoughts.

"That's me."

This response prompted the man to completely enter the room and close the door behind him. It made you slightly nervous about what he was about to say.

"I am so sorry for the wait. My name is Doctor White," he stopped to fidget with his hair before speaking again, "We will need to see you back here in around a week. Ryan's blood results are taking a little longer than expected."

"Oh my... I hope everything is alright?" Mrs. Emily expressed in concern.

Dr. White took in a breath before speaking, "Ryan's blood results were returned with traces of a drug."

"Oh my gosh!" Mrs. Emily gasped, "How? How would such a thing even happen?!"

"Mrs. Emily, please remain calm. This has happened to many of our patient's blood results throughout the past week or so. We are certain that this is just an error in our computers. Our IT department will come over soon to have it checked out. That is why we are asking you to come back next week."

The worried woman put a hand over her chest, "Are you sure it's nothing?"

"I'm confident. If it makes you feel any better, I can give you my extension number. So if anything changes with Ryan, you can give me a call right away."

"Oh, I would love that! Thank you so much."

"No, thank you for being so patient with us," Dr. White said as he loudly clapped his hands together, "and you, lovely young man. Would you like a sticker for being so brave?"

"No way! Stickers are only for babies and I am a big boy!" Ryan exclaimed.

"Oh yes of course! How could I have not noticed? A big boy like you isn't suited for such a childish gift. But I still need to give the sticker to someone..." Doctor White pretended to look around the room intensely before his hand stretched out to you, "would you like the sticker then?" The doctor asked with a smile, taking you by surprise that he suddenly acknowledged your existence.
