SHE NEVER GOT to morning before the conversation arose again. In the middle of the night, (F/N) heard a terrified scream from Sam's room. She rushed into his room only to find Michael standing by the window, both extremely sweaty and shocked.

"I'm basically a good kid, so just don't kill me!" Sam pleaded to his brother, "I can help you. Just tell me who the head vampire is. I thought it was Max, but I was wrong. Just work with me and I can help you. You'll be okay."

(F/N) furrowed her eyebrows in concern, looking between the trio, "What is going on—"

Suddenly a voice shouted from outside the window, "Michael! Michael!"

     (F/N) paused. Was that Star?

The trio rushed to the window, spotting Star standing in the moonlight-covered yard. Sam recognized her easily and looked between the teenagers, "It's that girl from the boardwalk. Is she one of them?"

Michael struggled to answer, "I don't know."

Star tried to catch Michael's eye, but couldn't, so she turned to (F/N), "I have to talk to you two. Can I come up?"

Michael quickly denied, "No!" Then he faced his brother, ordering, "You shut your window and lock your door." Michael turned from the open window and rushed to the door, only to freeze at Sam's shout.

"She's one of them!" Michael turned and spotted Star standing right inside of the window, having flown up. Sam was frightened as he scrambled to his bed, slipping under the covers to hide, "And don't tell me it doesn't make her a bad person!"

Michael called out, "Do you know where David took me tonight, Star?"

(F/N) looked to Michael. What was he talking about? In fact? What was going on? It was like she had been tossed head-first into a situation that had been boiling under her feet for weeks.

"Who's David?" Sam asked, then immediately hid back under his blankets.

Star nodded as the teenagers continued to ignore Sam's exclaims, "Yes... and I'm to blame for it. If you hadn't met me... if I hadn't liked you... I tried to warn you..."

Michael almost laughed at Star's words, "That night in the cave, that wasn't wine they gave me to drink... it was blood! David's blood."
