I was at auction with my parents and older brother. I hardly knew what was going on. My eyes kept darting from one thing to the next.
"Wanna go outside and play?" Brian asked.
I nodded enthusiastically. "Dad, Brian and I are goin' outside to play." I told him, bouning on the balls of my feet.
"Okay. Be careful Cassie." He ruffled my hair and Brian and I were off. We sprinted through the auction hall laughing. We did this every week. We came to auction, played outside, went home, and did it all again the next week.
Once we got outside we looked at each other and nodded. There were some other kids running around and playing. Brian led me to a group of three boys and asked, "Whatcha playin'?"
The tallest boy in the group, a boy with black hair and piercing blue eyes, turned to face us. I was standing half behind Brian and the boy watched our every move. "Hide and seek," he said, haughtily.
"Can we play?" my brother asked, motioning to me with his hand.
"Don't let them, Cam." said the middle boy. His tight, golden blonde curls bounced lightly when he moved his head. A mischiveious light shone in his green eyes when he talked. He couldn't be more than six.
"I think the boy should play, but no girls allowed," sneared the smallest boy. He had chestnut brown hair and jade green eyes. The middle boy laughed with him and nodded his consent.
"But..." I started. The tall boy, Cam, cut me off.
"You're brother and sister?" Brian nodded. "Then you can both play."
I beamed up at Cam. "Thanks."
"You gotta stick with your family." Cam said. I guessed he was probably around eight like Brian.
"I'm Brian." he stuck his hand out to Cam and the two other boys, they seemed to be getting over their initial anger with Cam for letting me play.
"I'm Cameron, you can call me Cam." They shook hands.
"I'm Cassandra, but you can call me Cassie." I said. I stuck my hand out as my brother had. Cam shook it but the others looked down at me. I rolled my eyes. Boys.
"So let's play. Ty, you're it."
"Fine!" The middle boy yelled. "I'm only going to fifty!"
Ty started to count and the rest of us took off running.
