It was weird.
My mom was excited about me going to the party. Every day leading up to it was a nightmare though. I felt like I had to avoid Andrew which was hard to do when he constantly seemed to seek me out.
Tawnya also seemed to be keeping a closer eye on me, and if it wasn't her, it was one of her cronies.
Unfortunately, Friday at the end of the day, he caught me at our lockers.
"Hello, Houdini."
I closed my locker to see Andrew leaning against his smiling. He had a football in his hands.
"Houdini?"
"Yeah, you've been pulling some pretty epic disappearing acts this week."
"Have I?" Playing dumb felt like my best defence, "Or have I just been busy getting to know the school?"
"Or every time our paths have the potential of crossing, you suddenly disappear." Andrew countered.
"That's not true." I closed my locker.
Andrew raised his brows. He opened his mouth to speak but a voice sang out into the hallway.
"Andrew!"
I watched his whole body slump down as Tawnya appeared.
"Hey T." He didn't hide his disappointment.
"You hitting up Chad's tonight?"
She placed herself between Andrew and me, leaning against my locker. I rolled my eyes.
"I am." Andrew gently tossed the football up, "I was just asking Rori if I could give her a ride."
If looks could kill, the one Tawnya shot me as she whipped her head in my direction would have marked my time of death. Andrew was looking over Tawnya's shoulder at me while she slowly turned her body. Her eyes were like daggers.
"That's okay. I can drive myself," I said quickly.
Andrew's brows furrowed, "That's silly. I know where it is."
"Terra is coming with me."
"I invited you."
I could see Tawnya's eyes darting between us.
I swallowed trying to find a way out of this, "You don't know where I live."
"So tell me."
Tawnya gave me a look dripping with disdain, "Yeah, tell him."
I let out a breath, "I'll text you."
Tawnya's face stayed even but the change in her breathing told me that she wasn't happy.
Tawnya clicked her tongue, "Well, I'll see you at the party, Andrew."
She gave me one last cold glare before walking down the hallway. I noticed Terra coming in the opposite direction towards the locker and felt relief.
