A Work in Progress: My Story of Weight Loss

I've been having issues with my weight for a while. A few things have made it harder, but I'm not going to quit. I'm 50 years old and amid perimenopause. My ideal weight is about 18 pounds away from where I now stand. I often exercise, eat well, and am quite healthy. I shed pounds one at a time. Despite how annoying this is, I accept it and choose to see the bright side due to my diligence and dedication to my exercise regimen and nutrition. I had hoped that rowing would push me past my limits and help me reach my weight target more quickly, but it hasn't. Even if the scale does not represent my success, it has helped me feel better physically and lighter in my clothes. Working so hard and seeing no results on the scale is difficult. I try not to think about it. Maybe one day, it will come together. In the meantime, my rowing skills are improving, my intervals are more intense, and I can row for much longer periods without fatigue.

I joined Weight Watchers a week ago, and in my first week, I lost 1.5 pounds. I should also mention that I consume more than I did previously ( I tend to "not" eat). I feel great. One pound at a time, I'll keep going. I intend to update this page at least once weekly so that people who identify with me know we are not alone and can succeed. I'm confident I can. Please be aware that I train as a boxer at least twice weekly.

Great work. Very impressive before and after shot.

For my part, I started eating right in July to get back in shape. I dropped 53 pounds in 8 months: 235—>182. I eliminated crisps, soda, and candy from my diet, which might have been enough to reduce my weight eventually. Although I came in last in my division when I competed in the Southern Indoor Rowing Championships in February, my time was still a personal best for a pace I thought was impossible to maintain in July. Meeting others who shared similar goals and accomplishments was a terrific and motivating experience. I have more energy than I have in years; I can easily outrun my children and am no longer out of breath after climbing a few flights of stairs.

These are what I typically eat in a day now:

breakfast: muesli with skim milk, orange, water mid-morning: plum, water lunch: turkey, cheddar and spinach on rye bread, apple, a handful of almonds, water

Water and a banana for midday

Dinner will consist of grilled or broiled salmon, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, a dozen grapes, a few cashews, and water. After a workout, snack: skim milk, a handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, and water.
