vii. family above all
ONCE Hope, Josie, and Jeremiah reached the Salvatore school, they split up and went looking for their siblings."What are you doing here?" Ric asked Hope, who jumped in surprise.
"You scared me." Hope clutched her chest.
"Dorian was supposed to keep you away." Ric sighed.
"He tried, he lost. But here. Killing gargoyles 101. He thought you could translate it." Hope handed him the book.
"Good look with that, Ric." Damon clasped Ric's shoulder.
Ric flipped through the book, "Gaulish. Son of a..."
Hope sent Ric a look as she watched him wearily look through the book. "So are we on our own, or did the Gauls provide clear instructions?" she asked him.
"In a nutshell, it says hit it hard, repeat as needed," Ric slammed the book closed as the gargoyle roared. "Listen, it poisoned Lizzie, your brother and Jewel. I'm guessing to get my attention. Then attacked me and took the knife."
"The knife? The dragon knife? And your still breathing?" Hope looked at him in surprise.
"He had a lot of help." Bonnie approached the two as she held a grip to Jeremiah's shirt.
"Oh...hi, Mrs. Bonnie, we kinda had to let down the containment spell to get inside the school." Hope scratched the back of her neck.
"I know sweetheart." Bonnie smiled at Hope.
"Well, let's get this thing before it makes the evening news." Alaric set the book down on a nearby table and grabbed the nearest axe, which was on the wall beside him.
"How did they take the containment spell down?" Ric whispered over to Bonnie.
"She didn't. I did...and I have questions." Josie walked up to the group and took away the axe from Ric.
