"Hope you're ready for tonight, greenie." I hear someone say to me from my right.

After Newt brought me to see the so-called beetle blades I returned to the center of the glade and sat down under a tree from where I could see everyone work.

"What's tonight?" I ask, turning my head to find Minho, one of the runners, approaching me.

"Your celebration party! We have one every time a Greenie comes up to welcome them to their new home."

"That's nice, but there's no need to do that for me."

I've already been getting quite a lot of attention for being the only girl here. I don't wanna imagine how a party celebrating my arrival would go.

"Are you kidding? Everyone's looking forward to it! There's nice food, drinks, that we only have on these special occasions, and a big bonfire! And you sure don't wanna miss Gally's fights!"

I sight knowing that the party will still take place whether I want to or not. "Alright then."

"Cool, see ya then."

After he said that he walked off to his group of runners.

It's honestly amazing how a group of people with no memories whatsoever made this terrifying place their home and worked hard to build stuff so that they could lead a somewhat normal life.

Though it was far from normal.

Nothing added up. Why would we be put in a place with such conditions, surrounded by a maze?

Why were our memories gone? It's not like knowing anything other than our names in here would do us any good, but they wouldn't hurt anyone.

And the maze...how is such a thing possible?

The more I tried to answer all of these questions by myself the more questions I stirred, so I finally gave up and stared at the grass beneath me.

I finally stood back up, dusted off my clothes, and started heading for one of the old buildings in this place, where I saw Newt go in.

I reached the door, an ugly slab of sun-faded wood, and pulled it open to see several stoic-faced boys standing at the foot of a crooked staircase, the steps and railings twisted and angled in all directions. Dark wallpaper covered the walls of the foyer and hallway, half of it peeling off.

The place reeked of dust and mildew—a big contrast to the pleasant smells outside. Flickering fluorescent lights shone from the ceiling.

"Oh, Y/n. Hi." Newt said as we locked eyes. He seemed quite surprised to see me, and so did the others filling the room.

"How come there's electricity in here?"

"We don't know..." another boy answered.

"Oh...interesting," I reply.

As I was lost in thought I felt someone tap my shoulder.

"Hey, Y/n!" I turn around to see Frypan. "Wanna try cooking with me? I heard girls are supposed to cook better than boys..."

"Umm, sure... I'll give it a try, but if I burn anything it's on you, alright?"

The boy chuckled at me before telling me to come along. I followed him to a small kitchen-looking place, with a grill and ingredients.

"Soo~ what are we cooking?"

"I don't expect you would remember what type of food you like, so there's a cooking book with pictures there. Flip through it and pick what looks the most appealing!"
