Reader POV

"Okay, so the next step is to go into forward stance with your left leg in front, and to do a knife-hand block with your right hand," you explained to a very concentrated Hermione.

"Good. Now fix your back foot since it's facing sideways again."

"Seriously? Again?" your best friend said, clearly annoyed at her bad poomsae habit.

"Yes again," you replied. "Now are you going to fix your stance or not?"

The bushy-haired girl groaned. You've been helping her prepare for her taekwondo red-stripe test, since you yourself had just gotten your second degree black-belt. Ever since your neighbour, not to mention best friend, Hermione Granger had joined last year, you'd been helping her with every pattern, kick and block you knew.

But just as you were about to help Mione with move 6, Mrs. Granger called out "Girls! There's someone at the door who wants to see you."

Before you could say anything in reply, Hermione ran past you shouting "I bet I can make it to the door first Y/n! HA!"

Oh, it's on.

As the two of you ran from the backyard, through the kitchen, and finally to the front door, you were met by a strange old man with a crooked nose and long white beard, and a glaring Monica Granger.

"What have I told you two about running through the house?" the woman questioned.

"Uh, well... Sorry Mum," your friend whispered, looking at her feet. If there was one thing Hermione Granger hated, it was getting in trouble.

"Oh Mrs. Granger, as long as they haven't destroyed anything, let the children be children," said old-beard guy. "But you two should still be careful. We don't need to cause any unnecessary explosions, now do we?"

Um, what? You wondered. It wasn't like you and Mione were witches or anything, blowing stuff up with magic and making growing potions.

"But my dear," the old guy said with a smile. "That's exactly what you are. You, and friend Ms. Granger."

"Wait, did I say that out loud?" The man shook his head. "Then how-"

The old man with the broken nose cut you off by handing you a letter, then giving an identical one to Hermione. Where these letters came from, you had no clue. But since this guy could also read minds, you decided not to question it.

Hermione was the first to open her letter, and read aloud,

"Dear Ms. Granger,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall"

You opened your letter to find the same thing written, just with your surname instead of your friend's. Reading the letter over and over again, you found it hard to believe. Was this some kind of joke? Did that Jacob kid from school get his parents to hire an actor to embarrass you and Hermione over the summer?

You looked to your friend and saw that she was in a state of both confusion and wonder. When the old man, who said his name was Albus Dumbledore, explained everything, you were only half listening, trying to find some logical explanation to this.

"Mione," you whispered. "Do you think this is real?"

"I'm not sure yet, but I can't find anything to prove that it's fake," your friend responded.

"My dears, it's just as real as the air you breathe." Wow. The old man also had a strange way of explaining things, but it somehow still made sense.

There's only one way to prove this, you decided. With a deep breath, and a quick glance at Hermione, you asked the Mr. Albus to show you some magic. The man agreed and pulled a stick from his pocket.

He waved it in the air, and sparkles appeared at the tip. With a smile, he looked down at you and said, "There, Ms. L/n. As I said, magic is very real, and you and Ms. Granger shall learn how to wield it." You smiled at the thought of learning fricken magic with your best friend.

As the man was walking out the door, he looked back and said "One last thing, Ms. L/n. It's not Mr. Albus. You may call me Professor Dumbledore."

And that's the first chapter! I hope you enjoyed my first piece of work, and I promise that I'll try my best to stay motivated and keep writing before (and even after) school starts.

Hope y'all have a wonderful day/night/life!
