My best friends dragged me to this open mic event at a local bar. The owner is also a close friend so they hooked us up with front row seats and the best liqour in the house.
"Y'all having a good time tonight?!" the MC asked, and the crowd responded with the same enthusiasm.
"Alright, alright. I'm not gonna waste a lot of time, I'm just here to introduce our guest artist. One of the best local poets and lesbian heartthrob, Jordan!!" he said and the crowed cheered as she made her way on stage.
She was dressed real chill in a pair of white cargoes and a black graphic shirt, finished with a pair of sage Converse. Not really my style but on her, I could appreciate it.
I was honestly loving what I was seeing. Her smile was pretty as hell, she had short fluffy locs and her skin was smooth and glowing.
I need to take her home with me
She greeted the audience and everyone was excited to hear her spit, so was I.
Her gaze landed on me and she winked at me. I almost missed it but Donell nudged me.
"Did she just wink at you." he asked, making me blush at the idea.
I chose not to think too deep about it, she was just working the crowd.
"I doubt it was for me." I shrugged.
Bella just shook her head. "You downplay yourself too much girl. She was staring right at you."
I tuned them out to listen to Jordan's poetry.
"I got some new shit for y'all." she said.
The crowd yelled, "NEW SHIT!" in response.
"I wrote it earlier so it's nothing long. Here it goes.
"Damn, I might have just seen an angel
Her smile is prettier than the stars in the night sky
Her skin looks so scrumptious I wanna take a bite
Her style so clean I want to see her clothes on my bedroom floor."She paused as the crowed cooed and snapped their fingers. Our eyes met once again.
Twice is a coincidence
"Y'all gon let me finish?" she joked. The crowed got quiet again.
"Unfortunately I don't know how to make a move on such a pretty lady
Maybe you can help me out
Ms. Angel
Maybe you could give me a taste of heaven"She said the last line staring right at me.
Okay three times?? Fuck it, I'm taking her home with me
Most of the crowd had clocked that she was talking to me. Donell nudged me again.
"Bitch, she's talking about you." he whisper yelled.
She got off the stage and the event continued.
After a few singers and poets went on I decided to do a little something in response to Jordan.
"Hey y'all. My name's Angel." I introduced, "And a fine ass girl lowkey gave me butterflies tonight. So I'm here to respond to her message."
The crowed cooed knowingly. I nodded at the DJ and she started playing the instrumental of Kool Aid by Kirby.
I sang to her, staring at her the whole song and I could see her eyes get darker the more we held contact and the closer she listened to the lyrics.
"My sugar sweeter
I can be your Kool-aid
You know
You can't buy this at the corner store"
