"I'm just saying, next year is senior year and we'll all be too busy to be messing around with people." my bestfriend Lisa said, trying to convince me to start dating.
I sighed as I turned from my closet, holding a pair of black cargo pants. I folded it and put it in the closet before giving Lisa all my attention.
They sat at my desk, spinning around in my study chair.
"Believe me Lis, I would love to give someone a chance but no one is really worth all that right now." I said as I walked toward my bed and sat down.
They shook their head at me.
"Fine. But don't look at me when you're wondering why you never experienced that high school love." they said, clearly fantasizing in their head about their girlfriend.
They were lucky to find someone who gives them butterflies and is smart and creative and beautiful.
I never had that luck. All I seem to attract is straight boys who only wanna fuck. High school boys are just gross to me, so much so I almost thought I was a lesbian at some point.
Then it's the straight girls who are "gay for me". I don't like being an experiment. I've seen how it can turn messy with my other friends so Lis and I steer clear off of that.
So of course I've never been in an actual relationship. Hell, I haven't even had my first real kiss yet.
I've only kissed Lisa when we were little kids to "practice for boys".
I smiled, remembering how clueless we were about our obvious queerness.
"I just hope someone comes along to get you out if this shell of yours Rachel." they said right before their phone went off.
After a brief conversation they hung up.
"That was my mom. I have to head home." they explained as they got up and stretched.
I got up and hugged them before I lead them out.
"Bye Bubba." I said and they mugged me, making me giggle.
"Bye big head." they replied as they went for their mom's car that they borrowed.
I went back up to my room as soon as they disappeared into the road.
I finished up folding my laundry just before my older sister came into my room.
"Hey Wendy. What's up?" I asked as I watched her look around my room like she was trying to find something wrong.
She turned her attention to me. "Nothing... well something. Sit down real quick."
I did as she asked, sitting on the bed. "Okay, what is it? You're stressing me out."
She sat next to me. "Ray-Ray, do you like girls?" she asked like she was scared of offending me by her question.
I just laughed. Why is she being so serious about it?
"What are you laughing at?" she said as she joined me, "Do you?"
I sighed. "I do."
She nodded in understanding before giving me a knowing smile.
"Are you and Lisa like..?" she asked, doing the finger scissors thing.
"Ewww no! They're just my bestfriend." I quickly dismissed the allegation.
"Mmhm." she said, not convinced.
"I'm serious Wendy. Plus they have a whole girlfriend so, not even gonna happen. I know too much." I reasoned.
