--------

Robin had been out with Steve, they were getting lunch. Robin had been having a rough week, all starting with a fight with her parents, that lead to her being anxious and on edge all week.

She tapped her fingers against the table as they waited for the waiter.

"Same as normal?" Steve asked.

Robin nodded. "Yeah.. Um. Sorry for making you order I jus' don't think I can do it.."

Robin had asked Steve to order for her. She rarely ordered for herself and today just couldn't be one of the days she did. Nothing felt quite right, her clothes were too scratchy, her shoes weren't tight enough, the sun was shining on the table and into her eyes. It had felt like this all day.

"Its alright, Rob. I don't mind, 'n I get it"

Once the waiter got there, Steve ordered for them both. After he did, Robin noticed some guy staring at her. She uncomfortably shifted. He kept staring. Its like he was forcefully making eye contact with her, no matter how many time she looked away she ended up looking back at him. This happened for a few minutes until he got up and walked over to their table.

"Steve-" Robin warned Steve. Steve looked over just as the guy reached them.

"Why're you acting like that?" He gestured to Robin, who was slightly rocking in her seat now. Robin froze up. She just couldn't deal with human interaction today, not with someone she wasnt comfortable with. When she didn't answer, the guy got louder. "Why're you acting like that?! Huh??!"

Robin scooted further into her seat. Steve stood up. "Hey man! Back off." He stood in front of the guy.

"She can't speak for herself?! She fucking retarded??"

Robin flinched this time. She hated that word. It had been thrown at her her entire life. She started rubbing her palms against her legs. "Steve- Steve" She tried. She just needed to leave.

"Retarded freak!"

Retarded freak

That wasn't original. It never was. Idiots like this all said the same things, it was just the way he said it. His words were like a brown ooze, spat all over Robin.

She got up and quickly made her exit. She got to Steves car and crouched down by the passenger door, she covered her face.

"You disgusting freak. The world would be better off without mistakes like you"

The guy had followed her out.

She sobbed now. "Stop! Stop! Stop!" She shouted at him. Thats all she could say.

Stop!

That was often her go-to word when she was overwhelmed and the world wouldn't leave her alone. It was an easy word to latch onto and just repeat.

"Get away from her!" She could faintly hear Steve shout.

Then everything went quiet. The man was gone. Steve crouched down in front of her.

"Robin, its me... C'mon, lets get into the car"

Robin did so. She didn't feel right. She didn't feel real.

The drive to Steves house was fast, Robin was lost in her thoughts the entire time.

"You good? I'm sorry that happened, that guy was an asshole. You're not a freak, Rob"

Robin didn't say anything, she just got out of the car and let herself into Steves house. Then into the closet she went.

(A/N)(Closet = safe space idc. I love closets)

She heard Steve come inside, he checked every room in the house for her. He started to panic. He thought he lost Robin.

Meanwhile, she was in the closet, her knees up to her chest. She bit her nails as small tears pooled up in her eyes.

Disgusting freak.

Mistakes like you.

She knew she was different, she had spent her entire life feeling less than everyone else. She tried so hard to be normal, but in the end she just couldn't.

Steve called Robins name a few times. He couldn't find her. So he called the Wheeler residence.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Nancy?"

"Yeah... Whats up, Steve?"

Steve took a deep breath. "I lost Robin"

"What?!"

"Shes in the house! I just don't know where- Some guy was being a dick, he called her some really- not okay words. Shes really upset."

He could hear Nancy suck a breath of air. "Okay. Okay. I'm gonna come over, I'll be there soon." She sounded worried.

Nancy wasted no time getting there. Steve tried to explain what happened, but she ignored him and went to the first closet she seen. She knocked.

Robin heard the knock, she lifted her hand and knocked back.

"Found her." Nancy mouthed at Steve, then sat down on the floor next to the door.

"Robin? Its Nancy"

Robin immediately felt better now. She reached up and unlocked the closet, but left it closed. A few seconds pass and Nancy opens the door. She sits down across from Robin. The closet was cramped, but she wouldn't ever complain. Small spaces like this often made Robin feel safe.

"Can I touch you?" Nancy asked, raising her hands

Robin nodded. Nancy placed her hands on Robins upper arms and gently rubbed circles into them. "I heard what happened, I'm really, really sorry it happened. People like that suck, really" She spoke gently, but not like Robin was fragile. She hated being treated fragile, Nancy never did that. She was just understanding and gentle. "Do you want a distraction? Or do you want to talk about it?" She asked.

Robin looked at Nancy, her eyes were watering. There was so much happening in her mind, she couldn't manage to get any words out. Nancy seemed to understand almost immediately. "Do you want to talk about it?" She asked the questions separately now, so Robin could shake her head yes or no. Robin shook her head no, multiple times for this.

Nancy nodded. "Okay. Distraction?" Robin nodded. "Do you want to watch a film?" Nancy asked. Robin nodded again. "Okay, do we need to kick Steve out?" Robin smiled slightly and shook her head no.

"Okay, love. Lets watch a movie"

They picked a movie, and the three watched it. Robin ended up falling asleep, her legs on Steve and her head resting in Nancys lap.

When she woke up, Steve was gone and it was just her and Nancy. She had calmed down quite a bit and felt quite better. She looked up at Nancy, who was observing her. " 'M sorry, Nance" she mumbled. Nancy softly ran a hand through Robins hair. "No need for you to be sorry. You didn't do anything wrong, I'm sorry that guy upset you."

"It was awful. He told me the world would be better off without mistakes like me"

"Hes completely wrong, Robin. Youve made the world a better place by being here. Youve made my world the best place possible by just existing"

There was a slight blush followed by a small smile on Robins face, before she sat up and covered Nancy in kisses.
