Have you ever dreamed about falling?

Have you ever dreamed about falling?

Not just falling from a building, or a plane, or to your death, but just an endless void of falling until you wake up screaming.

Yes?

No?

I wish my answer was no but I've gotten that dream every night for the past sixteen years. That's right. For sixteen years of my miserable existence, I have dreamed about falling into nothingness.

It is utterly terrifying.

However, the way it starts is even more petrifying.

Firstly, I go to sleep and wake up around the dining table. The strange thing about it is that no one is there with me. Yet, the table is already set up with steaming hot food prepared on the plates. Such a delicious aroma that has my mouth watering.

However, my family is nowhere to be found. I call out for them, I always call out for them but only the dead cold silence calls back to me.

I've never fancied my family because they spend less attention on their children and more on their jobs. I never depend on anyone really.

They always perfect the skill of disappointment. It's an utter waste to depend on humans for anything.

So why did I always call out to them?

"Mom!?"

"Dad!?"

Pathetic!

Every night I call and every night I'm faced with the fact that no one will appear.

Secondly, A loud whisper echoes quietly throughout the modern house. A fuzzy one that I can't seem to decipher. It sounds like static playing through a radio from far away but on some days it sounds like a baby crying for its mother.

So many things that it sounds like. One time it even sounded like..me.

I always go off chasing that sound. Throwing open my front door.

However, instead of being greeted with my white picket-fenced front yard, I'm met with an overgrown forest.

Incredibly huge trees that have my neck stretching upwards to the sky but even then I can't seem to find where the trees end.

Covered from head to toe in moss. Thick vines protruded everywhere wrapping around the ancient vegetation. They slither their way around every bush and fallen branch they can reach their grabby little hands on.

There is no sun or moon here but it's not dark or bright either. It's not bright enough to call day or dark enough to call night... So I guess it's the Evening?

That seems to fit. It's just bright enough for me to see.

The loud whispers begin to get louder until I reach into the middle of the forest.

It was a huge opening with a large pond sitting there. Birds often fly up to the tip of the trees whenever the sound is made.

I look around.

I search for it.

I hear it.

It can't be far. It's so close and yet out of reach.

Why?

Finally, I find the sound. It's coming from...the pond. The water ripples violently as the sound gets louder.

I walk towards it but the vines try to warn me. They try to pull me back.

"Don't go." They hiss. Their grips get tighter but the sound grows louder.

That sound.

So hypnotizing that I have to go towards it!

I struggle through the tight hold of the vines, ripping some apart until they retreat. They always retreat when I get too close to the water.

I stoop closer to the pond.

This is where it gets...interesting.

I'm stooping closer and the sound gets louder. Then I look into the water that reflects the beautiful orange sky.

The sound begins to bellow into the air.

Suddenly, I touch the water before immediately retracting my hand from the cold but before I fully pull my hand out of the pond, another hand grips mine.

"What the-"

Then, it drags me under.

You expect me to drown right?

I did too but I just..fall.

Fall into nothingness.

This is where I normally close my eyes and try to wake myself up. I used to try to see what was pulling onto my hand but it was always pitch black.

"Wake up!" I would scream but this time..this time I didn't wake up.

This time I wasn't falling into nothingness.

This time, something was on the cold hard floors of my bedroom, looking up at me with an eerily smile, waiting for me to finish falling.
