Well since, mum and dad were not particularly pleased with my results on my recent test, which happened to be the class that I share with Brian, I was forced to get a job. Apparently it is supposed to improve my 'work ethic'. I mean, we're not that loud, I will admit, we are chatty but most of the time, it's about the topic at hand.... Most of the time...... Some of the time....Actually none of the time. But no one needs to know that.
Some times I don't have a clue what they're on about. I have seriously wacky parents.
So as eager as they were to get rid of me, they already secured me a spot at the 'delightful' little bookstore downtown. I'm not so sure about it as their strange enthusiasm about it left me skeptical about the whole idea.
As I hop off the bus once it stops downtown I realise that we've reached those 'shabby sheek' suburbs where all the young business people stay in their retro apartments and there are cute little coffee shops dotted around every neighbourhood.
I walked down the path and admired that each house estate was personally styled to the owners own individual liking. There were small pot plants hanging from the roof of one deck, letting tiny ferns brighten up the scene. Another house had a collection of old style retro radios framed and placed to decorate their porch. These are the types of place that I feel that I fit into. Everything just felt right.
I breathed in the air, which smelt surprisingly fresh as the only motorised vehicles that pass are a few buses and cars, unlike the inner city which is full of traffic jams and the honking horns of impatient drivers. A young man dressed in a sleek navy blue suit rode past me on his bicycle, a brown sling bag over his shoulder and fancy leather shoes. He rung his bell and winked as he passed me.
Was he winking at me?
I turned around and walked backwards, keeping my eyes on his receding figure that slowly disappeared over the hill.
Damn he was fine
But he was like, 27, but damn he was fine
Shaking my head at my own typical teenage thoughts, I abruptly bumped into someone behind me. We both fell onto the rough pebbled walkway with many grunts of pain.
I muttered a colourful trail of curses under my breath as I eyed my scraped elbows and knees. There was no blood, so that okay.
"I am so so soooooo sorry, I didn't mean to, I wasn't looking where I was going, I'm sorry, I just was distracted you know, there was a bike and I turned around and I was backwards and I didn't see you and-"
The person let out a small genuine chuckle "Really it's ok"
His voice was deep and husky and just ughhh.
Girl, you've got a boyfriend
Wait do I?
Is he even my boyfriend?
During this whole mental battle with myself I was shifting myself around so face the person and to assist myself in standing up. That was until I found myself awkwardly stuck in his lap, both of us were facing each other but one of his legs were on top of mine and one of my legs were wrapped around his.
Let's just say it was terribly awkward and we both couldn't exactly move.
I cringed as I stared at our tangled legs, my ripped skinny jeans were exposing more leg than they should and I wouldn't be surprised if more rips were formed during our little fall.
"Let's just umm" he lifted me up in one swift motion and surprised me with his strength. Only then did I actually get a good look at him.
He had green eyes, the colour of jade, which contrasted with his olive coloured skin. His jawline was prominent as he grinded his teeth awkwardly, that was only when I realised I was probably staring at him in a creepy way.
"Oh um I err I'm really sorry umm, do you know where that bookstore is, I forgot the name, it's umm-"
"Cleo's Store?" He suggested as he looked into my eyes, I suddenly felt self conscious, I wasn't used to major eye contact with boys. Not even with Dylan, most of the time he makes eye contact with other girls breasts. But what do I care, he says he likes me and only me, so that's all that matters right?
"Aha that's the one!" I giggled before averting my gaze from his eyes, something draws me to them but I don't know what.
He gestures rather grandly towards the open door of the store we just spent ages outside of, awkwardly shuffling.
"After you" he smiled cutely, dimples in his perfect cheeks.
"Oh why thank you"
"So what brings you here today?" He asks genuinely interested for my upcoming answer, leaning against the front counter coolly.
