third person's pov
(i describe some things in weird ways..)

It was a windy evening in autumn, it was also exactly four months since Chulreo broke up with Heeseung. They weren't sure if they would ever feel comfortable with each other again, especially after Chulreo's confession that she had feelings for Jay.

They walked side by side near the Han River. They had just finished their schedules for the day, and after bumping into each other in the kitchen, they figured they had nothing better to do than to accompany each other at the Han River. Jay wasn't at home, no one was at home.

No one else had finished their schedules yet.

Heeseung was walking with his hands in his pockets while Chulreo walked with her head down. Chulreo always went to the Han River for peace, but all she felt now was guilty, guilty for being the reason for her breakup with Heeseung. Chulreo waited, she waited four months for the wound in her friendship with Heeseung to heal, but no. It never healed.

Heeseung didn't look at Chulreo, he just kept looking forward. Because of her sad face, Heeseung couldn't bear to even glance at her. Children were running around with their parents yelling at them, young couples were holding hands and walking together. Everything reminded Heeseung of those four months he was together with Chulreo.

No one spoke a word, it was so awkward that none of them had the courage to say anything. Chulreo knew she had to do something if she wanted to be best friends with Heeseung again, but she couldn't. She was clueless about what to say or do. Biting her lower lip, Chulreo slowly turned her head to look at Heeseung.

His side profile, his skin, did they belong to the same person Chulreo fell out of love with? How did she fall out of love with someone like that? Suddenly, Heeseung's head moved, causing Chulreo to look away. He definitely knows I was staring, Chulreo thought to herself. Heeseung cleared his throat. "Are you hungry? There's a sotteok stand." Heeseung said, pointing at an ahjumma selling sotteok sotteok ahead.

Chulreo at the direction Heeseung had pointed at and nodded slowly. The both of them walked towards the sotteok stand. Chulreo walked behind Heeseung, just like how she did when they were walking towards the restaurant on their first date. Deja vu was the first thing that hit Chulreo.

"Three sotteok sotteoks, please." Chulreo watched as Heeseung ordered the food. He pulled out his wallet from his pocket and paid without hesitation. Chulreo didn't even have to look at Heeseung to know that he was looking at her. Why was the ahjumma taking so long to prepare the sotteok sotteoks? Chulreo felt flustered under Heeseung's gaze.

"Here you go, young man." Chulreo looked at Heeseung as he smiled at the ahjumma and took the food from her hands. To Chulreo's surprise, Heeseung gave her two, leaving only one for himself. She looked at her hands in confusion. "Why.. why did you give me two?"

"Because it's your favourite."

Because it's my favourite? No matter what Heeseung said or did, Chulreo kept getting flashbacks. Because it's your favourite, Heeseung teased her on Valentine's Day by buying her jaws ice cream. Because it's your favourite, Heeseung smiled when he showed her the matching churro pyjamas he bought. And, why were they at the Han River?

Because it's Chulreo's favourite place.

Heeseung smiled slightly at Chulreo before biting a piece of garae tteok off of his skewer. Chulreo chuckled awkwardly before doing the same. Deja vu, it hit Chulreo again. They had the same thing during one night in March when they went out to buy a midnight snack. "Do you wanna find a bench?"

Chulreo was snapped out of her thoughts when Heeseung spoke. She nodded before following Heeseung when he began to walk. Chulreo looked at the skewers she held, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to finish them, but then again, she was too afraid to tell Heeseung. Chulreo just gulped and continued following Heeseung.

When they found a bench, they quickly sat down before anyone else could occupy the empty bench. The bench was small and yet they were still able to keep a small distance. The sun was slowly setting, making Heeseung and Chulreo's half-exposed faces sun-kissed. Chulreo remembered how attractive Heeseung looked when they were at a beach together, watching the sunset.

Everytime Chulreo looked at Heeseung, everytime deja vu hit her, she tried to fight it. She tried to fight back the fact that she missed him because she wanted to stay loyal to Jay. Chulreo clenched the sotteok sotteok skewers in her fists and let out a heavy sigh.

"I get deja vu everytime I look at you." She admitted. Heeseung turned his head to look at Chulreo, feeling something in his heart soften. "I miss you everytime I'm lonely but I can't let you know." Chulreo bit her lip, feeling ashamed for telling Heeseung the truth. "What can't you possibly let me know?" He asked.

"That.. that you were always the second option."

Heeseung froze. For a second, he wished he had mistaken Chulreo's words for something else, but no. He was the second option, not the first option and not the only option, but the second option. He smiled slightly. "At least I was an option."

Chulreo could feel tears form in her eyes. "At least I was an option.", it was just another excuse for Chulreo to think that everything was okay when it wasn't. "I'm sorry." She whispered, lowering her head as she clenched the sotteok sotteok skewers even harder. "Don't be, if anything, I should be the one who's sorry."

"I dated my best friend's crush, and even after she left me, my feelings for her remained the same. I let my heart clench everytime I saw her with my best friend, I let myself feel a certain hatred towards my best friend when it was obviously wrong."

"Chulreo, did you know?"

Chulreo slightly wiped her tears before looking up at Heeseung with a sob. Heeseung smiled, tucking strands of Chulreo's hair behind her ear. "My heart has never stopped beating for you, and everytime it does, it's deja vu that makes it beat for you."
