Skrtttttttt

I watch as multiple cars come down the street racing each other in broad daylight. The gush of wind blowing my hair back.

Cheers break out as the red Ford Mustang crosses the finish line first.

"Wooo there goes my baby!" JT exclaims behind me.

Uzi gets out the car with a big smile plastered on his face. Not a second later a couple of girls go up to Uzi congratulating him and trying to feel up on him.

"Oh nahh see this what we not about to do" JT walks up the the girls pushing them out the way to get next to Uzi.

She grabs his face and starts making out with him causing the other girls to start mean mugging her and walking way.

I laugh at my sister possessiveness.

Ski taps me on the shoulder grabbing my attention from the other racers. He hands me a red icee in a Styrofoam cup with a spoon on top.

"Thank you Skiiii" I say dragging his name while looking at him with a smile.

He looks down at me smiling flashing the golds in his mouth.

"You're welcome"

"Sooo you deadass never raced before" the boy looks at me while fixing his pink durag.

I lazily look up at him "nahhh" I spoke with a smile,

"I literally just found out my sister races last night" I chuckled

"Don't tell her I said this cuz next thing you know her head starts getting too big but, she's dope at it too"

I stare at Ski with craziest look ever, "JT almost crashed the car the first few times when she started to drive without our dad in the car"

"how the fuck did she end up being good at racing" I think out loud

My thoughts get interrupted by Ski laugh.

I look at him confused trying to figure out what was funny about what I said till I realized he's high out of his mind. A few people walks by giving us funny looks because of how loud and long Ski been laughing causing me to laugh right aside of him.

"Oh shit" the taller boy says while wiping his tears, "I don't know why that shit was so funny"

I continue to giggle at the boy reaction at his own laughter.

* 30 minutes later *

"Mani what kinda wings you like fried, baked, or grilled" Caresha asks.

We are currently at Miami Grill drive thru getting food since the boys kept complaining about being hungry after their races. To be fair, the race was in the morning and we didn't really have time to eat since Uzi made us late.

My stomach growl as I replied, "umm get me grilled with ranch"

"I need to know why the hell we the ones grabbing these niggas food" JT says with an annoyed tone. "I swear I cannot stand them",

R&b plays through the radio, the soft breeze from the windows being down moves my hair tickling my neck. I turn my head towards the rolled down window looking at the pinkish orange sky. As I look at the scenery I get hit with a wave of nostalgia, Miami Grill is a favorite in the city. My pops would always bring us here on Friday nights. He loved shooting dices and betting with his homeboys. My sister and I were too young to really understand what was going on but, we were definitely fed and entertained.

"Girl you literally took the keys and dragged me and Mani to the car"

"You proceed to say that if you stayed any longer in the house with the boys you was gon air the place out" I added

My sister looks back at me with that look.

You know, that looks that says "you better shut up before I punch you". I look at her back with an innocent smile, "my badddd" I teased.

"That would be 65.40" The lady announced through the speaker. JT pulls up to the window and quickly scans the card while grabbing the food. "Damn, I forgot how good the food be smelling at this place". My stomach growl from the amazing smell of the food I'm holding on my lap.

As we head back home I look around seeing what changed and what stayed the same. At the light I see a group of teenagers playing basketball at a park. I smile thinking about the time my dad tried to teach me how to dribble. I know he would never say this to me but I know for sure my dad was hoping for a boy after my sister was born. I mean if anyone would look at my baby pics they would of definitely be confused on why I had so much boy clothes as a newborn.

I turn my head the other way seeing the candy lady house, I'll be honest most of my money went to her since she was on the street I walked to get to and from school. Looking back I really wished I didn't spend all my money on pickled eggs and Arizona's. Probably would of been up by now.

I sit back enjoying the ride, the wind starts getting more aggressive blowing my hair everywhere due to my sister fast driving. The cool night feels great on my skin and suddenly I'm smiling with the thought of me being home.
